Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Bara bin Qais (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) sent me to Hazrat Salman bin Rabiah (may Allah have mercy on him) to instruct him to break his fast while he was engaged in a siege.

Hazrat Qaza’ah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that I asked Hazrat Abu Sa’id (may Allah be pleased with him) about fasting during travel. He (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We traveled with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), so we also fasted and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) also fasted, until we stopped at a place. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Indeed, you have now come close to your enemy, so breaking the fast is more beneficial for you.
