Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Asim (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) said: If a treasure is found in the enemy's land, then khums (one-fifth) will be obligatory on it. And if a treasure is found in the land of Arabia, then zakat will be obligatory on it.

Hazrat Husain (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that a person who participated in the Battle of Qadisiyyah stated that there was a man among us who, after performing ghusl (ritual bath), suddenly found a gold brick when water fell on the ground. He went to Hazrat Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) and informed him about it. He (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Add it to the spoils of war of the Muslims.

Hazrat Huzail (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that a man came to Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: Indeed, I have found two hundred dirhams. He (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I do not think that the wealth of the Muslims has reached this amount. In my opinion, it is generally considered buried treasure. Therefore, you should pay one-fifth of it to the Bayt al-Mal, and whatever remains will be yours.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: One-fifth is obligatory in buried treasure.

Imam Shabi (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: One-fifth (khums) is obligatory on buried treasure.

The aforementioned saying of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) is also narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him).

This statement, mentioned in a mawquf form from Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), is also transmitted with this chain of narration.

Imam Sha'bi (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that a slave from among the Arabs found a leather bag in which there were ten thousand dirhams. So he brought it to Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). He (may Allah be pleased with him) took a fifth from it, that is, two thousand, and gave him eight thousand.

Imam Sha’bi (may Allah have mercy on him) says that a man found fifteen hundred dirhams in a deserted place. He came to Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). So he (may Allah be pleased with him) said: You should pay its khums. And one third of its khums will be for you. And the rest of the khums, soon we will purify for you.

Hazrat Hisham (may Allah have mercy on him) says that Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Khums (one-fifth) is obligatory on rikaz, that is, buried treasure.

Hazrat Umar al-Dhabi, may Allah have mercy on him, says that while the people of Sabur were softening the land—or he said: they were plowing the land—they found a treasure. And over them, Hazrat Muhammad bin Jabir al-Rasbi was the governor. So he wrote a letter to Hazrat 'Adi, may Allah have mercy on him, regarding this matter. And Hazrat 'Adi, may Allah have mercy on him, wrote a letter to Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz, may Allah have mercy on him, inquiring about this matter. Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz, may Allah have mercy on him, replied: Take one-fifth (khums) from them.

Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: One-fifth is obligatory on buried treasure.

Hazrat Abdullah narrates from his father that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: One-fifth is obligatory in buried treasure.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) decreed one-fifth (khums) for buried treasure.

Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: One-fifth is obligatory on buried treasure.
