Narrations Reported Regarding Basrah
Hadith 34635
٣٤٦٣٥ - حدثنا وكيع عن عبد ربه بن أبي راشد قال: سمعت ابن عمر يقول: البصرة خير من الكوفة (١).
Hazrat Abdur-Rabah bin Abu Rashid (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Basra is better than Kufa.
Hadith 34636
٣٤٦٣٦ - حدثنا عفان قال: ثنا سليمان بن المغيرة عن ثابت عن عبد الرحمن بن أبي ليلى قال: طفت الأمصار فما رأيت مصرًا أكبر متهجدًا من أهل البصرة.
Hazrat Thabit (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Abi Laila (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I have traveled to many cities, but I have not seen any city with more people performing Tahajjud than Basra.
Hadith 34637
٣٤٦٣٧ - حدثنا أبو أسامة عن سفيان قال: ثنا إبراهيم بن محمد بن المنتشر عن أبيه (قال) (١): قال حذيفة: إن أهل البصرة لا يفتحون باب هدى، ولا (ينزلون) (٢) باب ضلالة، وأن الطوفان قد رفع عن الأرض كلها إلا البصرة (٣).
Hazrat Muhammad bin Muntashir (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Surely, the people of Basra neither open the door of guidance nor leave the door of misguidance and deviation, and indeed the storm has moved away from all the people of the earth except Basra.
Hadith 34638
٣٤٦٣٨ - حدثنا أبو معاوية عن عاصم عن أبي عثمان قال: جاء رجل إلى حذيفة فقال: إني أريد الخروج إلى البصرة، فقال: لا تخرج إليها، قال: إن لي بها قرابة، قال: لا تخرج، قال: لا بد من الخروج، فأنزل عدوتها ولا تنزل سربها (١).
Hazrat Abu Uthman (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that a man came to Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: I intend to go to Basra. So he (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Do not go. The man said: Indeed, my close relatives are there. He (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Do not go. The man said: It is necessary for me to go. He (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Then stay at its outskirts, do not settle in its midst.
