Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abu Ja'far, may Allah have mercy on him, narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Do not go ahead of the Quraysh, otherwise you will go astray, and do not lag behind the Quraysh, otherwise you will go astray. The best people of the Quraysh are the best among all people, and the worst people of the Quraysh are the worst among all people. By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad (ﷺ), if the Quraysh had not become arrogant, I would have told them that they are the best in the sight of Allah.

Hazrat Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: People follow the Quraysh in good and bad.

Hazrat Rifa’ah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gathered the Quraysh and said: “Is there any outsider among you?” The people replied: “No, except for our nephews, our slaves, and our allies.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Your nephews are from among you, your allies are from among you, and your slaves are from among you. Indeed, the Quraysh are truthful and trustworthy. Whoever seeks out their faults and mistakes, Allah will cause him to fall on his face.”

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: People follow the Quraysh in this matter. The best of the people are those who follow the best of the Quraysh, and the worst of the people are those who follow the worst of the Quraysh.

Hazrat Jubair bin Mut’im (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Surely, a Quraishi possesses the strength of non-Quraishi men. Imam Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked: What is meant by this? He (may Allah have mercy on him) replied: It refers to maturity of opinion.

Hazrat Sahl bin Abi Hathmah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Learn from the Quraysh. Do not teach them, and put the Quraysh forward and do not put them behind. Surely, one Qurayshi has the strength equal to two non-Qurayshi men.

Hazrat Zaid bin Abi Atab (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) stood on the pulpit and said: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: People are followers of the Quraysh in the matter of caliphate. Those among the Quraysh who were the best in the time of ignorance are also the best in Islam, provided they are given understanding. By Allah, if the Quraysh had not become arrogant, I would have told them how excellent they are in the sight of Allah!

Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to us while we were in the house of an Ansari man. The Prophet (peace be upon him) held both sides of the doorframe and then said: The Imams will be from among the Quraysh.

Hazrat Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood at a door where there was a group of the Quraish, and he (peace be upon him) said: Surely, the matter of caliphate will remain among the Quraish.

Hazrat Abu Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the Quraysh: Surely, the matter of caliphate will remain among you and you will be its guardians.

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The matter of caliphate will remain among the Quraysh as long as two people remain. Hazrat Asim (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned in his narration that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also moved his two fingers.

Hazrat Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever intends to insult the Quraysh, Allah will humiliate him.

Hazrat Abu Sadiq (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Quraysh are the leaders of the Arabs. Their righteous people are the leaders of the righteous, and their sinful and wicked people are the leaders of the sinful and wicked."

Hazrat Rabi’ah bin Najid, may Allah have mercy on him, narrates that Hazrat Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, said: Verily, the Quraysh are the leaders of the Arabs. And their righteous people are the leaders of the righteous. And their evil people are the leaders of the evildoers. And everyone has a right. So give each rightful person his due.

Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The caliphate will be among the Quraysh. Judgement will be among the Ansar. The call to prayer will be among the Abyssinians, and haste will be among the Yemenis."

Hazrat Ubaid bin Umair (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed for the Quraysh in this way: O Allah! Just as You made the former people taste punishment, likewise make the latter people taste Your blessing and bounty.

Hazrat Abu Sadiq (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Imams will be from among the Quraysh.

Hazrat Muti’ bin Aswad (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say on the day of the conquest of Makkah: “From this day until the Day of Resurrection, no Quraishi will be singled out and killed.”

Hazrat Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that a man was killed, so the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was informed about it: Upon this, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: May Allah distance him from His mercy. Indeed, he used to bear enmity towards the Quraysh.

Hazrat Saeed bin Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that he received the information that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: People are followers of the Quraysh; the righteous are followers of the righteous, and the wicked are followers of the wicked.
