Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Abdul Muttalib bin Rabee’ah that some people from the Ansar said to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): “We hear from your people, and those who say, say that the example of Muhammad is like that of a tree which grows in a field.” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “O people! Who am I?” The people said: “You are the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon you.” He said: “I am Muhammad, son of Abdullah, son of Abdul Muttalib.” He says: “We had not heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mention this lineage before.” Then he said: “Beware! Indeed, Allah created His creation and divided them into two groups, then He placed me in the best group. Then He made tribes from them, and He placed me in the best tribe. Thus, in terms of household I am the best among you, and in terms of self I am the best among you.”

Ubayy narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: When the Day of Resurrection comes, I will be the leader of the people, their speaker, and their intercessor, and I do not say this out of pride.

Ja'far's father narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "I was born from marriage, and not from adultery. From Adam (peace be upon him) until now, the immorality of ignorance has not reached me."

Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I have been given five qualities which were not given to anyone before me: I have been helped by awe (cast into the hearts of my enemies) for a distance of one month’s journey; and the earth has been made for me pure and a place of prayer, so wherever a man of my ummah finds the time for prayer, let him pray; and war booty has been made lawful for me, and it was not lawful for anyone before me; and I have been granted intercession; and the prophets before me were sent only to their own people, but I have been sent to all mankind.

Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Prophet ﷺ said: Five qualities have been granted to me, and I do not mention them out of pride. I have been sent to the red and the black, and the earth has been made pure and a place of prayer for me, and the spoils of war have been made lawful for me, whereas they were not lawful for anyone before me, and I have been helped through awe, such that it travels a month's distance ahead of me, and intercession has been granted to me, and I have postponed it for my Ummah until the Day of Resurrection, and, if Allah wills, it will be granted to every person who did not associate anything with Allah.

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I have been helped through awe, and I have been given concise words, and spoils of war have been made lawful for me, and while I was sleeping, the keys to the treasures of the earth were brought to me and placed in my hands."

Hazrat Abu Musa narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: I have been given five qualities which were not given to any prophet before me: I have been sent to both the red and the black, and I have been helped by awe (instilled in the hearts of my enemies) for a distance of one month's journey, and the earth has been made pure and a place of prayer for me, and war booty has been made lawful for me, which was not made lawful for any prophet before me, and I have been granted the privilege of intercession, for every prophet has already used his intercession, but I have deferred my intercession for every person who dies without associating anything with Allah.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I was helped by the east wind, and the people of 'Ad were destroyed by the west wind."

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) bin Abi Talib narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I have been granted such virtues that were not granted to any prophet before me." We asked, "O Messenger of Allah! What are they?" He said: "I was helped through awe, and the keys of the earth were given to me, and my name was kept Ahmad, and the earth was made a purifier for me, and my Ummah was made the best of all communities."

Mus‘ab bin Sa‘d narrates that Ka‘b said: The very first person who will grasp the ring of the gate of Paradise and it will open is Muhammad ﷺ. Then he recited this verse from the Torah: "Akhirana Qadaman, Al-Akhiruna Al-Awwalun."

Hazrat Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Three virtues have been granted to us over the people: the whole earth has been made a place of prayer for us, and its soil has been made a means of purification for us when we do not find water, and these verses have been given to me from the treasure chamber beneath the Throne—that is, the last verses of Surah Al-Baqarah. They were not given to anyone before me, nor will they be given to anyone after me.

Hazrat Abu Dharr narrates that I set out in search of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and I found him performing prayer. So I kept waiting for him until he finished his prayer. Then he said: Five privileges have been granted to me this night which were not granted to any prophet before me: I have been helped through awe, so that the enemy is overcome with fear of me from a distance of one month's journey; and I have been sent to both the red and the black; and the earth has been made a purifier and a place of prayer for me; and spoils of war have been made lawful for me, which were not made lawful for anyone before me; and it was said to me: Ask, and you will be given. So I have stored this, and it will reach every one of you who does not associate anything with Allah.

Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet ﷺ said that I will be the first intercessor in Paradise, and he said that no prophet has been affirmed as much as I have been affirmed, and among the prophets there are such prophets whose affirmation was not done by more than one person in their nation.

Mujahid says that the interpretation of { عَسَی أَنْ یَبْعَثَک رَبُّک مَقَامًا مَحْمُودًا } is that Allah will seat you (ﷺ) on the Throne.

Ubaid bin Umair says that in { وَإِنَّ لَہُ عنْدَنَا لَزُلْفَی }, Allah has mentioned the closeness of the Prophet (peace be upon him).

Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I entered Paradise and saw a river whose banks had tents made of pearls. I struck my hand into its soil and found it to be fragrant musk. I asked Jibreel (peace be upon him), "What is this?" He replied, "This is Kawthar, which Allah, the Exalted, has granted to you."

Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: While the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was sitting among us, he dozed off, then he raised his head smiling. We said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! What happened to you?" He replied, "Just now a Surah has been revealed to me," and he recited {إنَّا أَعْطَیْنَاک الْکَوْثَرَ فَصَلِّ لِرَبِّکَ وَانْحَرْ إنَّ شَانِئَک ہُوَ الأَبْتَرُ }. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Do you know what Al-Kawthar is?" We said, "Allah and His Messenger know best." He said, "It is a river which my Lord has promised me. There is much goodness upon it, and it is a basin upon which my Ummah will come on the Day of Resurrection. Its vessels are as numerous as the stars. Then a servant will be prevented from it, and I will say, 'O my Lord! Indeed, he is one of my companions.' Allah, the Exalted, will say, 'No, you do not know what innovations he introduced after you.'"

Khawlah bint Hakim says: I asked, "O Messenger of Allah! Do you have a reservoir (hawd)?" He replied, "Yes! And among those who will come to it, the most beloved to me are your people."

Aamir bin Sa’d narrates that I wrote to Jabir bin Samurah asking him to tell me something he had heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). He wrote back that he had heard the Prophet (peace be upon him) say: "I will reach the Hawd (the Pond) before you."

Sunabah reports that I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: "I will be the first to reach the Pond before you."

Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Between my grave and my pulpit is one of the gardens of Paradise, and my pulpit will be upon my cistern (Hawd)."

Hazrat Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I will reach the Hawd (the Pond) before you for your sake.

Hazrat Umm Salamah narrates that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) saying: "I will reach the Pond before you for your sake."

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Kawthar is a river in Paradise, its banks are of gold, and its bed flows over rubies and pearls. Its soil is purer than musk, its water is sweeter than honey, and whiter than snow."

Hazrat Jundub narrates that I heard the Prophet ﷺ saying: I will reach the Pond before you.

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Surely, before you is a reservoir whose length is equal to the distance between 'Jurba' and 'Adhrah'.

Hazrat Abu Saeed narrates that one day the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, came out while we were in the mosque, and he had a bandage tied on his head, during the illness in which he passed away. He walked towards the pulpit, and we followed behind him. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "By Him in Whose hand is my soul, it is as if I am standing at the reservoir (Hawd) right now."

Hazrat Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Many people will come to my cistern, but they will be kept away from me at a distance.

Murrah narrates from a companion of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I will reach the Pond before you.

Hazrat Sahl bin Sa’d narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: I will reach the Hawd (the Pond) before you; whoever comes to me will drink from it, and whoever drinks from it will never feel thirsty again.

Hazrat Usaid bin Hudair narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Soon after me you will see favoritism, so be patient until you meet me at the Pond."

Hazrat Abdullah bin Zaid narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said to the Ansar: "You will soon see preference given (to others) after me, so be patient until you meet me at the Pond."

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: I will be waiting at the Hawd (Pond) for those who come to drink.

Hazrat Abu Dharr narrates that I asked, "O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)! What will the vessels of the Hawd (Pond) be like?" He replied, "By Him in Whose hand is my soul, its vessels are more numerous than the stars in the sky, and by stars is meant the stars of a clear night sky. Whoever drinks from it will never feel thirsty. Its width is like its length, equal to the distance between Oman and Aylah. Its water is whiter than milk and sweeter than honey."

Hazrat Thawban, the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), narrates that the Prophet ﷺ said: I will be at the place where people drink from my pond, and I will drive people away from the people of Yemen until the people are separated. Upon this, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was asked about the width of the pond, and he replied: Its distance from my place to the middle of Oman is like the distance between these two places, which is about a month’s journey or close to it. Then the Prophet ﷺ was asked about its water, and he said: It is whiter than milk and sweeter than honey. Into it will flow two channels from Paradise, one of silver and the other of gold.

Hazrat Abu Bakrah narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: Many people will come to me at my cistern who were with me and had seen me, until when they will be brought towards me, they will be prevented from reaching me. I will say, "O my Lord! These are my companions." Allah will say, "You do not know what innovations they introduced after you."

Hazrat Abu Hurairah narrates that one day meat was brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and the meat from the foreleg was presented to him, which he liked. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) tore a piece from it once and then said: "I will be the leader of the people on the Day of Resurrection. And do you know how this will be?" Allah will gather the first and the last in one plain on the Day of Resurrection. Then a caller will make them hear a call, and their sight will become sharp, and the sun will come near, and people will be in such distress and grief that they will not be able to bear it. People will say to one another: 'Do you not see what calamity has befallen you? Do you not see someone who can intercede for you with your Lord?' (2) So people will say to one another: 'Your father is Adam (peace be upon him).' They will go to Adam (peace be upon him) and say: 'O Adam! You are the father of mankind, Allah created you with His own hand, and breathed into you of His spirit, and commanded the angels to prostrate to you. Intercede for us with your Lord. Do you not see in what state we are? Do you not see our distress?' He will say: 'My Lord is angry today as He has never been before, nor will He ever be again. And He forbade me to go near the tree, but I disobeyed Him. I am concerned for myself. Go to someone else. Go to Nuh (peace be upon him).' (3) So they will go to Hazrat Nuh (peace be upon him) and say: 'O Nuh! You are the first Messenger sent to the people of the earth, and Allah named you a grateful servant. Intercede for us with your Lord. Do you not see in what state we are? Do you not see what calamity has befallen us?' Nuh (peace be upon him) will say to them: 'My Lord is angry today as He has never been before, nor will He ever be again. I had one supplication which I used against my people. I am concerned for myself. Go to someone else. Go to Ibrahim (peace be upon him).' (4) So they will go to Ibrahim (peace be upon him) and say: 'O Ibrahim! You are Allah's Prophet and His friend among the people of the earth. Intercede for us with your Lord. Do you not see in what state we are? Do you not see what calamity has befallen us?' Ibrahim (peace be upon him) will say to them: 'My Lord is angry today as He has never been before, nor will He ever be again.' And he will mention his lies. 'I am concerned for myself. Go to someone else. Go to Musa (peace be upon him).' (5) So they will go to Musa (peace be upon him) and say: 'O Musa! You are Allah's Messenger. Allah gave you distinction through His message and by speaking to you. Intercede for us with your Lord. Do you not see in what state we are? Do you not see what calamity has befallen us?' Musa (peace be upon him) will say to them: 'Today my Lord is angry as He has never been before, nor will He ever be again. I killed a soul whom I was not commanded to kill. I am concerned for myself. Go to someone else. Go to Isa (peace be upon him).' (6) So they will go to Isa (peace be upon him) and say: 'O Isa! You are Allah's Messenger, and you spoke to people in the cradle, and you are Allah's word which He cast to Maryam, and a spirit from Him. Intercede for us with your Lord. Do you not see in what state we are? Do you not see what calamity has befallen us?' Isa (peace be upon him) will say to them: 'My Lord is angry today as He has never been before, nor will He ever be again.' And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not mention any sin of his. 'I am concerned for myself. Go to someone else. Go to Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).' (7) So they will come to me and say: 'O Muhammad! You are Allah's Messenger and the Seal of the Prophets, and Allah has forgiven your past and future sins. Intercede for us with your Lord. Do you not see in what state we are? Do you not see what calamity has befallen us?' I will go under the Throne and fall in prostration before my Lord. Then Allah will open my heart and inspire me with praises and glorification which He has not inspired anyone before me. Then it will be said: 'O Muhammad! Raise your head, ask and you will be given, intercede and your intercession will be accepted.'

Hazrat Salman narrates that on the Day of Resurrection, the sun will be given the heat of ten years, then it will be brought close to the people’s heads until it will be at a distance of two bow-lengths. Thus, people will sweat until the sweat will reach the height of a man in the earth, then it will rise until a man will say “ghargahr” (gurgling, as if drowning). Salman says, until a man will begin to say “ghargahr.” When they see their condition, they will say to each other, “Do you not see the state you are in? Go to your father Adam (peace be upon him) so that he may intercede for you with your Lord.” So they will go to Adam (peace be upon him) and say, “O our father! You are the one whom Allah created with His own hand, and He breathed into you of His spirit, and He made you dwell in His Paradise. Rise and intercede for us. Do you not see our condition?” He will say, “This is not my station, and I am not of that rank, so how can I do this?” They will say, “Then whom do you command us to go to?” He will say, “Go to that servant whom Allah declared grateful.” (2) So they will go to Nuh (peace be upon him) and say, “O Prophet of Allah! You are the one whom Allah declared grateful, and you see our condition. Rise and intercede for us.” He will say, “This is not my station and not my rank, so how can I do this?” They will say, “Whom do you command us to go to?” He will say, “Go to Allah’s friend, Ibrahim (peace be upon him).” (3) So they will go to Ibrahim (peace be upon him) and say, “O friend of Allah! You see our condition, so intercede for us with your Lord.” He will say, “This is not my station, and I am not of that rank, how can I do this?” They will say, “Whom do you command us to go to?” He will say, “Go to Musa, whom Allah chose for His message and to speak with Him.” (4) So they will go to Musa (peace be upon him) and say, “You see our condition, so intercede for us with your Lord.” He will say, “This is not my station and not my rank, how can I do this?” They will say, “Whom do you command us to go to?” He will say, “Go to Allah’s Word and His Spirit, Isa (peace be upon him), son of Maryam (peace be upon her).” (5) So they will go to Isa (peace be upon him) and say, “O Word of Allah and O Spirit of Allah! You see our condition, so intercede for us with your Lord.” He will say, “This is not my station and not my rank, how can I do this?” They will say, “Whom do you command us to go to?” He will say, “Go to that servant through whom Allah opened and through whom He sealed, and whose former and latter sins were forgiven, and who will come in security that day.” (6) So they will go to Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and say, “O Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! You are the one through whom Allah opened and through whom He sealed, and all your former and latter sins were forgiven, and you have come in security that day, and you see our condition, so intercede for us with our Lord.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) will say, “I am with you.” So he will go forth, pushing the people aside, until he comes to the gate of Paradise, and he will take hold of the golden ring attached to the gate and knock on the door. It will be said, “Who is this?” The answer will be given, “This is Muhammad.” It is said that then the door will be opened for you, then you will come and stand before Allah, and you will seek permission to prostrate, and you will be granted permission, so you will prostrate. Then you will be called, “O Muhammad! Raise your head, ask and you will be given, intercede and your intercession will be accepted, and supplicate and your supplication will be accepted.” It is said that then Allah will inspire in your heart such praise and glorification as has not been inspired in any of the creation. You will say, “O Lord! My Ummah, my Ummah.” Then you will seek permission to prostrate, then you will be granted permission and you will prostrate. Then Allah will inspire in your heart such praise and glorification as has not been inspired in any of the creation. And you will be called, “O Muhammad! O Muhammad! Raise your head, ask and you will be given, intercede and your intercession will be accepted, and supplicate and your supplication will be accepted.” You will raise your head and say, “O Lord! My Ummah, my Ummah,” two or three times. Hazrat Salman says that your intercession...

Abdullah Ghalib narrates that Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) said that on the Day of Judgment, the leader of the children of Adam will be Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).

Hazrat Anas narrates that the Prophet ﷺ said: On the Day of Resurrection, the believers will gather and say, "If only we could present an intercessor before our Lord." "This thought will be inspired to them." So Allah will grant us relief at that place. Thus, they will come to Adam (peace be upon him) and say to him, "O Adam! You are the father of mankind, and Allah created you with His own hand, and breathed into you of His spirit, and taught you the names of all things. Intercede for us with our Lord, that He may grant us relief from this place." He will say, "This is not my station," and he will mention his complaint or state his mistake which he committed, and he will feel ashamed before his Lord. But go to Noah (peace be upon him), for he is the first Messenger whom Allah sent to the people of the earth. So they will go to Noah (peace be upon him), but he will say, "This is not my station," and he will mention the question he asked his Lord about which he had no knowledge, and he will feel ashamed before his Lord. But go to Ibrahim, the Friend of Allah. They will go to him, and he will say, "This is not my station. Go to Musa (peace be upon him), with whom Allah spoke and to whom He gave the Torah." They will go to him, but he will say, "This is not my station," and he will mention the killing of a soul without the right of another soul, and because of this he will feel ashamed before his Lord. But go to the servant of Allah, His Messenger, His Word, and the Spirit of Allah. They will come to Isa (peace be upon him), and he will say, "I am not for this task, and this is not my station. But go to Muhammad ﷺ, whose past and future sins Allah has forgiven." Hasan says that the Prophet ﷺ said: "Then I will walk between two rows of the believers." "The statement of Hasan ends here." "Then I will seek permission from my Lord, and I will be granted permission. When I see my Lord, I will fall down in prostration. Allah, the Exalted, will leave me in that state as long as He wills. Then it will be said, or He will say, 'Raise your head, speak and you will be heard, ask and you will be given, intercede and your intercession will be accepted.' I will raise my head and praise Allah with such praises as He will teach me. Thus, my intercession will be accepted. Allah will set a limit for me, and I will admit that many people into Paradise. Then I will return again, and when I see my Lord, I will fall down in prostration. Allah will keep me in that state for a long time. Then, as before, He will say, 'Speak and you will be heard, ask and you will be given, intercede and your intercession will be accepted.' I will raise my head and praise Allah with such praises as He will teach me. Then it will be said, 'Ask, you will be given, and intercede, your intercession will be accepted.' Then Allah will set a limit for me, and I will admit them into Paradise. Then I will return to Allah a fourth time and say, 'O my Lord! None remain except those whom the Qur'an has withheld.'"
