Regarding 'Istihlal'—the Cry at Birth That Establishes Inheritance: What Is Its Reality?
Hadith 33629
٣٣٦٢٩ - حدثنا ابن مهدي عن زائدة عن مغيرة عن إبراهيم قال: (إلاستهلال) (١) الصياح.
Mughira narrates that Ibrahim said that Istihlal means "to cry out."
Hadith 33630
٣٣٦٣٠ - حدثنا وكيع قال: حدثنا إسرائيل عن سماك عن عكرمة عن ابن عباس قال: استهلال الصبي صياحه (١).
Ikrimah narrates that Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) said that the meaning of a child's "istihlal" is his crying out.
Hadith 33631
٣٣٦٣١ - حدثنا ابن مهدي عن سليمان بن بلال عن يحيى بن سعيد قال القاسم ابن محمد: الاستهلال النداء والعطاس.
Yahya bin Saeed says that Qasim bin Muhammad said that the meaning of "Istihlal" is to make a sound and to sneeze.
Hadith 33632
٣٣٦٣٢ - حدثنا (معن) (١) بن عيسى عن (ابن) (٢) أبي ذئب عن الزهري قال: أرى العطاس (٣) الاستهلال.
Ibn Abi Dhi'b narrates that Zuhri says: In my opinion, "istihlal" refers to sneezing.
Hadith 33633
٣٣٦٣٣ - حدثنا عبد الأعلى عن معمر عن الزهري عن سعيد بن المسيب عن أبي هريرة أن رسول اللَّه ﷺ قال: "ما من مولود (ولد) (١) إلا نخسه الشيطان، فيستهل صارخا من نخسة الشيطان، إلا ابن مريم وأمه" (٢).
Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Every child that is born, Satan pricks him, due to which he cries out, except for the son of Maryam and his mother.
