Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Saeed bin Musayyib narrates that Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) made the grandmother of a man from Banu Thaqif an heir while her son was still alive.

Abu Umar al-Shaybani says that Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) used to make the grandmother an heir even when her son was alive.

Abu Dhamma reports that Hazrat Imran bin Husain (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the grandmother will be made an heir even if her son is alive.

Muhammad bin Sirin narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) made the grandmother an heir to one-sixth of the wealth while her son was alive, and she was the first grandmother to inherit in Islam.

Humaid bin Abdur Rahman Himyari narrates that the son of Hass bin Hanzala passed away and he left behind Hass and his mother. Regarding this, Hazrat Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) wrote to Hazrat Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), so he replied that you should make her the heir of one-sixth share while her son is present.

Anas bin Sirin narrates about Hazrat Shurayh that he made the grandmother an heir along with her son.

Yunus reports regarding Hasan that he used to make the grandmother an heir even when her son was alive.

Ash'ath relates about Hazrat Muhammad bin Sirin that he used to make the grandmother an heir even when her son was alive.

Hisham narrates that Muhammad, may Allah have mercy on him, said that the first grandmother who was given inheritance in Islam was the grandmother whose son was alive.

Anas bin Sirin narrates about Hazrat Shurayh that he made grandmothers (both maternal and paternal) heirs, even though the son of the paternal grandmother was alive.

Hisham narrates from his father that he used to make the grandmother an heir even when her son was alive.
