Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Ibrahim that Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and Hazrat Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) used to grant inheritance to the possessors of kinship (dhawu al-arham). The narrator says: I asked Ibrahim, "What did Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) say?" He replied: "He was even stricter than both of them in granting inheritance to the possessors of kinship."

33242 - Fudayl said: So I said to Ibrahim: And Ali? He said: He was (1) the strictest of them in that, to give to the relatives (2).

Hazrat A'mash says that this statement is also narrated from Ibrahim, Hazrat Umar, Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), and Hazrat Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him).

Hazrat Jubair bin Nafeer narrates that I was sitting with Hazrat Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) while he was a judge, when a man came to him and said that his brother had passed away and had not left any heirs. He asked what should be done about his wealth. Hazrat Abu Darda replied, "Go and take his wealth."

It is narrated from Suwaid bin Ghaflah that Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was asked about the inheritance of a daughter, a wife, and masters. He gave half of the wealth to the daughter, one-eighth of the wealth to the wife, and returned the remaining wealth to the daughter, and did not give anything to the masters.

Hazrat Maisarah narrates that Ibrahim rejected the hadith of Hazrat Hamzah (may Allah be pleased with him)'s daughter and said that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave her wealth as a gift.

Ibrahim narrates that a freed slave of Hazrat Alqama made a will of one-third of his wealth for the household of Hazrat Alqama, and he gave two-thirds of his wealth to the son of his maternal brother.

Hazrat Salim narrates that a case was brought before Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding a man who left behind his grandmother and his masters. He (Hazrat Ali) gave his wealth to the grandmother and did not give anything to the masters.

It is narrated from Hazrat A’mash that I was walking with Ibrahim when a woman came to him near the market of Siyaqilah and said, “Your freed slave woman has passed away; you should take her inheritance.” He replied, “It is for you.” She said, “May Allah bless you (I do not wish to take it).” He said, “If I had any right in this wealth, I would not have given it to you.” Whereas Hazrat Ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) was in need of even a dish worth five dirhams, which he would have received from her inheritance. A’mash says that I asked Ibrahim, “What relation does this woman have to her?” He replied, “She is the daughter of her maternal half-sister.”
