Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Aswad narrates that a man came to Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and said to him that he had a sister who was a fornicator, she passed away and left behind a child who also died later, leaving some camels as inheritance. Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "In my opinion, there is no lineage relationship between you, so bring those camels and add them to the camels of charity." The narrator says that after this, the man went to Hazrat Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) and told him the whole matter. So Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) got up and went to Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and said, "O Commander of the Faithful! What did you say regarding this issue?" He replied, "In my opinion, there is no lineage relationship between the two." Hazrat Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Is he not the maternal uncle of the child and entitled to his wealth?" He asked, "What is your opinion?" Hazrat Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) replied, "In my view, he is entitled to the child's wealth." So Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) returned the wealth to that man.
