Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The example of a believer is like that of a crop which the wind keeps bending continuously, and in the same way, a believer is always afflicted with trials and tribulations. And the example of a disbeliever is like that of a pine tree which does not bend until the time comes for it to be cut down.

Hazrat Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The example of a believer is like that of a tender, weak crop which the wind keeps moving; sometimes it knocks it down and at other times it makes it stand upright, until it dries up. And the example of a disbeliever is like that of a pine tree which stands firm on its roots; nothing can move it until it is uprooted all at once.

Hazrat Basheer bin Naheek (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The example of a weak believer is like that of an unripe crop. The wind sometimes bends it, and sometimes makes it stand upright. The narrator says: I asked, "And what is the example of a strong believer?" He (may Allah be pleased with him) said: His example is like that of a date palm tree which bears its fruit whenever anyone is under its shade, and the wind never bends it.

Hazrat Ata (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The example of a believer is like that of a honeybee. It eats pure things and gives pure things.

Hazrat Abu Musa (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: A believer for another believer is like a building, each part of which strengthens the other.

Hazrat Amr bin Shurahbil (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Faith is filled up to the joints of Hazrat Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him).

Hazrat Hani bin Hani, may Allah have mercy on him, narrates that we were sitting with Hazrat Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, when Hazrat Ammar, may Allah be pleased with him, arrived. So Hazrat Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, said: Welcome to the pure and fragrant one. I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: Surely, faith is filled in Ammar’s, may Allah be pleased with him, very joints.

Hazrat Zakariya (may Allah have mercy on him) says that I heard Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) saying: Faith is not the name of adornment and desire. Surely, faith is that which is firmly rooted in the heart and whose confirmation is done by actions.
