Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Masruq narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) considered it disliked to mark the divisions of tens (ashar) in the Mushaf.

Hazrat Hajjaj says that Hazrat Ata considered it undesirable to mark the divisions (Ashar) in the Mushaf. And also that anything other than the Qur'an be written in it.

Hazrat Hammad has also narrated a hadith from Ibrahim similar to the previous ones.

Hazrat Laith says that Hazrat Mujahid considered it undesirable to mark the divisions of tens in the Mushaf or to write any details of anything, and he also considered it undesirable to say, "Surah Al-Baqarah," and would instead say: "The Surah in which the mention of the cow is found."

Hazrat Laith states that Hazrat Mujahid disliked marking the signs of tenths in the Mushaf.

Hazrat Zabraqan narrates that I said to Hazrat Abu Razin: I have a Mushaf and I wish to seal it with gold and write at the beginning of each Surah: "This Surah has so many verses." Hazrat Abu Razin replied: Do not add to the Qur'an things from the world, neither little nor much.

Hazrat Hisham says that Muhammad considered those signs in the Holy Qur'an to be disliked which contained the letters Qaf and Kaf.

Hazrat Mughira states that Ibrahim considered it undesirable to mark the verses in the Mushaf.

Hazrat Mughira narrates that Ibrahim considered it undesirable to place dots in the Mushaf and to mark the end of a Surah in such and such a manner.

Hazrat Hajjaj narrates from his teacher that Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) saw a special mark in a Mushaf, so he erased it and said: Do not mix anything other than it in the Qur'an.

Hazrat Hajjaj says that Hazrat Ata disliked marking the divisions of tens in the Mushaf and writing anything other than the Qur'an in it.

Hazrat Shu'aib bin al-Habbhab narrates that Hazrat Abu al-'Aliyah disliked marking the ushr (tithe) signs.
