Who Forbids Arguing About the Qur'an
Hadith 32166
٣٢١٦٦ - حدثنا يزيد بن هارون قال: أخبرنا يحيى بن سعيد عن محمد بن ⦗٤٦٣⦘ إبراهيم عن (سعد) (١) مولى عمرو بن (العاص) (٢) قال: تشاجر رجلان في آية فارتفعا إلى رسول اللَّه ﷺ (قال) (٣): "لا تماروا فيه، فإن (المراء) (٤) فيه كفر" (٥).
Hazrat Sa’d, who was the freed slave of Hazrat Amr bin Al-Aas, narrates that two men argued over a verse of the Qur’an, and both brought their dispute to the presence of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. He said: Do not argue about this, for arguing about the Qur’an is disbelief.
Hadith 32167
٣٢١٦٧ - حدثنا ابن نمير قال: (حدثنا) (١) موسى بن عبيدة قال: أخبرني عبد اللَّه ابن يزيد عن عبد الرحمن بن ثوبان عن عبد اللَّه بن عمرو قال: قال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "دعوا المراء في القرآن، فإن الأمم (قبلكم) (٢) لم يُلعنوا حتى اختلفوا في القرآن، فإن مراء في القرآن كفر" (٣).
Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Abandon disputing about the Qur'an, for indeed, the previous nations were not cursed until they differed regarding the Qur'an. Surely, disputing about the Qur'an is disbelief."
Hadith 32168
٣٢١٦٨ - حدثنا مالك (١) حدثنا (أبو) (٢) قدامة قال: حدثنا (أبو) (٣) عمران (الجوني) (٤) عن جندب بن عبد اللَّه قال: قال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "اقرأوا القرآن ما ⦗٤٦٤⦘ ائتلفت عليه قلوبكم (٥)، فإذا (اختلفتم) (٦) فيه فقوموا" (٧).
Hazrat Jundub bin Abdullah narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Recite the Qur'an as long as your hearts are in harmony with it, and when you begin to differ regarding it, then get up.
Hadith 32169
٣٢١٦٩ - حدثنا (حفص) (١) عن ليث عن عطاء عن ابن عباس قال: لا تضربوا القرآن بعضه ببعض، فإن ذلك يوقع الشك في القلوب (٢).
Hazrat Ata narrates that Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) said: Do not mix some parts of the Qur'an with others, because this creates doubt in the hearts.
Hadith 32170
٣٢١٧٠ - حدثنا يحيى بن يعلى التيمي عن منصور عن سعد بن إبراهيم عن أبي سلمة عن أبي هريرة قال: قال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "جدال في القرآن كفر" (١).
Hazrat Abu Huraira narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Disputing about the Qur'an is disbelief.
Hadith 32171
٣٢١٧١ - حدثنا أبو أسامة عن شعبة عن عبد الملك بن ميسرة قال: سمعت النزال يقول: قال عبد اللَّه: سمعت رسول اللَّه ﷺ يقول: "إن من قبلكم اختلفوا فيه فأهلكهم، فلا تختلفوا فيه"، -يعني (١) القرآن (٢).
Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: Indeed, the people before you differed in this matter, so Allah destroyed and ruined them. Therefore, do not differ in this matter, that is, in the Qur'an.
