Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Learn the Qur'an from four people: Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), Mu'adh bin Jabal, Ubayy bin Ka'b, and Salim, the freed slave of Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him)."

Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I recited (the Quran) before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), so he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: You have recited beautifully.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that Hazrat Umar, while addressing us, said: Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) is the best among us in making judgments, and Ubayy is the best among us in recitation, and we have left out some things which Ubayy used to recite. And Hazrat Ubayy used to say: I have heard the Qur'an from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and I will not leave anything from the words of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). And indeed, the Book was revealed after Ubayy.

Hazrat Abdul Malik bin Umair narrates that Hazrat Qabeesah bin Jabir said: I have not seen any person who recites the Book better, has more understanding of Allah’s religion, and knows Allah more than Hazrat Umar.

Hazrat Dawood bin Shaboor narrates that Hazrat Mujahid said: We used to take pride before people because of our reciter, Hazrat Abdullah bin Sa’ib.

Hazrat Dawood bin Shaboor narrates that Hazrat Mujahid said: I used to take pride among the people for being a firm memorizer of the Qur'an, until I prayed behind Hazrat Muslamah bin Makhlad. Then he began Surah Al-Baqarah and did not make a single mistake, not even in an alif or a waw.

Hazrat Umar says that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whoever wishes to recite the Qur'an as fresh as it was revealed, then he should recite according to the recitation of Ibn Umm Abd.

Hazrat Amr bin Al-Harith narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whoever wishes to recite the Qur'an as it was freshly revealed, then he should recite according to the recitation of Ibn Umm Abd.

Hazrat Ammar bin Abi Ammar narrates that I heard Hazrat Abu Habba Badri saying: When the verse "Those who disbelieve from among the People of the Book were not..." until the end was revealed, Jibreel said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Your Lord commands you to recite this Surah to Ubayy. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Ubayy: Jibreel has commanded me to recite this Surah to you. Hazrat Ubayy said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Did he mention my name? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: Yes.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever wishes to recite the Qur'an as fresh as it was revealed, then he should recite according to the recitation of Ibn Umm Abd.

Hazrat Mughira narrates that Ibrahim said: Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) recited the Qur'an from the tongue of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).

Hazrat Mansur bin Abdur Rahman narrates that Hazrat Sha'bi said: Hazrat Abu Bakr, Hazrat Umar, and Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with them) passed away in such a state that they had not compiled the Qur'an.
