Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abu Shuraih Al-Khuzai narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, came to us and said: "Receive glad tidings, receive glad tidings. Do you not bear witness that there is no deity except Allah and that I am the Messenger of Allah?" The companions replied: "Yes!" He, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, this Qur'an is a rope. One end of it is in Allah's hand and the other end is in your hands, so hold firmly to it. Surely, after this, you will never go astray nor will you ever be destroyed."

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: In the Book of Allah are the stories of those before you, and the news of those who will come after you, and the rulings for those among you. It is the decisive criterion between truth and falsehood; it is not a jest. Because of it, the soul does not become crooked. The scholars are never satiated with it, and it does not become old from being recited repeatedly. Its meanings’ secrets and wonders never end. Whoever abandons it out of harshness, Allah will break him into pieces. And whoever seeks guidance in anything other than it, Allah will misguide him. It is the strong rope of Allah. It is full of blessings and wisdom. And it is the straight path. Whoever acts upon it receives reward, and whoever judges by it does justice. And whoever calls towards it, calls towards the straight path. O A’war, hold onto it firmly.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: This Qur'an is the banquet of Allah, so learn from the banquet of Allah according to your ability. This Qur'an is the rope of Allah, and it is a clear and radiant light, and a healer and a benefactor. It is a means of protection for the one who holds it firmly, and a means of salvation for the one who follows its teachings. It is not crooked that it should be straightened, nor is it defective that its defect should be removed, and the wonders of its meanings never end. And it does not become old by being recited repeatedly.

A person from the tribe of Bajila narrates that Hazrat Jundub Bajali set out on a journey. The narrator says that some people from his tribe were also with him. Until they reached such a place that some people began bidding farewell to others. He said: O people! Hold fast to the fear of Allah. This Qur'an is obligatory upon you, so adhere to it. For the person who is in hardship and hunger, this Qur'an is a source of light in the dark night and a means of true guidance.

Hazrat Zaid bin Jubair narrates that Hazrat Abu Bakhtari Al-Tai said to me: Follow this Qur'an, for surely it will guide you.

Hazrat Aswad narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Surely these hearts are empty vessels, so keep them occupied with the Qur'an and do not occupy them with anything else.

Hazrat Abu Al-Ahwas narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Verily, this Qur'an is the banquet of Allah; whoever enters this invitation is safe and secure.

Hazrat Shahab narrates that Hazrat Umar said: Learn the Book of Allah, you will be recognized through it, and if you act upon it, you will become among its people.

Hazrat Abu Kanana narrates that Hazrat Abu Musa said: Surely, this Qur'an is an admonition for you, or a source of reward for you, or a burden upon you. So, follow the Qur'an and do not let the Qur'an follow behind you. Because whoever follows the Qur'an, it will lead him into the gardens of Paradise, and whoever lets the Qur'an follow behind him, it will push him from the back of his neck and throw him into Hell.

Hazrat Zubayd Al-Muradi narrates that I was present in the service of Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) when he was standing and delivering a sermon. He said: O people! Hold fast to the Qur'an and cling to it firmly, to the extent that he clenched his hand as if he was holding a rope.

Hazrat Khaythamah narrates that Isa passed by a woman, and the woman said: Glad tidings for the womb that bore you, and glad tidings for the breast that nursed you. The narrator says: Isa said: Glad tidings for the person who recited the Qur'an and followed its teachings.

Hazrat Wasel narrates that Ibrahim said: A woman passed by Hazrat Isa ibn Maryam, then the narrator mentioned the hadith as previously stated.

Hazrat Mughira bint Hassan narrates that I heard Hazrat Anas saying: Surely, he has held onto a firm support. He said: By firm support is meant the Qur'an.

Hazrat Marrah narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Whoever wishes to acquire knowledge should recite the Qur'an, for in it is the knowledge of those who came before and those who will come after.

Hazrat Aswad narrates that Hazrat Abdullah said: Adhere to two healing things: the Qur'an and honey.

Hazrat Abu Al-Ahwas narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) said: There is a cure for every disease in honey, and there is a cure in the Qur'an for the doubts found in the hearts.

Hazrat Laith states that Hazrat Mujahid said: The translation of the verse: There is healing for the people. He said: There is healing in the Qur'an.
