Forgetting the Quran
Hadith 31989
٣١٩٨٩ - حدثنا محمد بن فضيل عن (يزيد) (١) بن أبي زياد عن (٢) عيسى بن (فائد) (٣) قال: حدثني فلان عن سعيد بن عبادة قال: حدثنيه عن رسول اللَّه ﷺ قال: " (ما) (٤) من أحد يقرأ القرآن ثم ينساه إلا لقي اللَّه وهو أجذم" (٥).
Hazrat Sa'd bin Ubadah narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: There is no person who recites the Qur'an and then forgets it, except that he will meet Allah in a state of leprosy.
Hadith 31990
٣١٩٩٠ - حدثنا وكيع عن ابن أبي (رواد) (١) عن الضحاك قال: ما تعلم رجل القرآن ثم نسيه إلا بذنب، ثم قرأ الضحاك: ﴿(وَمَا) (٢) (أَصَابَكُمْ) (٣) مِنْ مُصِيبَةٍ فَبِمَا كَسَبَتْ أَيْدِيكُمْ﴾ [الشورى: ٣٠]، ثم قال الضحاك: وأي مصيبة أعظم من نسيان القرآن.
Hazrat Ibn Abi Rawwad narrates that Hazrat Dhahhak said: If a person learns the Qur'an and then forgets it, this happens because of some sin. Then he recited this verse of the Qur'an: "And whatever misfortune befalls you, it is because of what your own hands have earned." Then Hazrat Dhahhak said: Which misfortune is greater than forgetting the Qur'an?
Hadith 31991
٣١٩٩١ - حدثنا وكيع عن سفيان عن عبد الكريم (١) أبي أمية عن طلق بن حبيب قال: من تعلم القرآن ثم نسيه من غير عذر حط عنه بكل آية درجة، وجاء يوم القيامة مخصومًا.
Hazrat Abdul Kareem Abu Umayyah narrates that Hazrat Talq bin Habib said: Whoever learned the Qur'an and then, without any excuse, forgot it, then for every verse, one rank will be reduced, and this person will come on the Day of Judgment in such a state that the Qur'an will argue against him.
Hadith 31992
٣١٩٩٢ - حدثنا وكيع عن إبراهيم بن (يزيد) (١) عن الوليد بن عبد اللَّه بن أبي مغيث قال: قال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "عرضت علي الذنوب فلم أر فيها شيئًا أعظم من حامل القرآن وتاركه" (٢).
Hazrat Abdullah bin Abi Mughith narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Many sins were presented before me, but I did not see any sin greater than memorizing the Qur'an and then forgetting it.
