Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abdullah bin Abi Bakr narrates that when the deceased would be covered with soil and the grave leveled, Hazrat Anas would stand by the grave and supplicate as follows: O Allah! Your servant has been returned to You, so show kindness to him and have mercy on him. O Allah! Widen the grave for him from its side. And open the doors of the heavens for his soul. And accept his deeds in a good manner. O Allah! If he was righteous, then increase his good deeds twofold, and if he was a sinner, then forgive his sins.

Hazrat Umair bin Saeed narrates that Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) recited four takbeers at the funeral of Yazid bin Makfif. Then he stood by his grave and prayed as follows: O Allah! This is Your servant and the son of Your servant. Today he has become Your guest, and You are the best of hosts. O Allah! Make his grave spacious, and forgive his sins. For surely, we know nothing but good about him, and You know best regarding this matter.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Abi Mulaika narrates that when the grave of Hazrat Abdullah bin Saib was leveled and completed, Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) stood by his grave. He stood there for quite a while, then he prayed and returned.

Ibn ‘Ulayyah narrates: I saw Ayyub standing by a grave, then he supplicated for the deceased, and many times I saw him supplicating for the deceased before the one burying had come out of the grave.
