Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abu Huraira narrates that the Holy Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: When you hear the crowing of a rooster, ask Allah for His bounty, for it sees an angel; and when you hear the braying of a donkey, seek refuge with Allah from Satan, for it sees a devil.

Hazrat Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: When you hear the barking of dogs and the braying of donkeys at night, seek refuge in Allah, for surely they see things which you do not see.

Hazrat Ata narrates that when Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) heard the braying of a donkey, he would supplicate as follows: I begin with the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. I seek refuge with Allah, the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing, from the accursed devil.
