Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When the devils from among the jinn lead you astray, then call the Adhan in a loud voice.

Hazrat Yasir bin Amr says that I mentioned to Hazrat Umar about the Ghilaan, who alter their appearance and mislead people from the path. So he said: Surely, nothing has the ability to alter Allah’s creation from the way Allah created it. But this deception is like your deception. When you see such a thing, then give the call to prayer (Adhan).

Hazrat Abu Ayyub narrates that when I used to be in the platform, a jinn who changes shape would come to me. So I complained about this to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When you see him, say this: In the name of Allah: Answer the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He says: When he came, So I said these words and caught him. Then he said to me: Indeed, I will not come again. So I released him. I went into the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked me: What became of your captive? I replied: I caught him. Then he said: I will not come again. Then I let him go. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Indeed, he will come again. He says: I caught him two or three times. Each time he said: I will not come again. And you would go to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would ask: What became of your captive? So you would say: I caught him, then he said: I will not come again, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would say: Indeed, he will come again. He says: Then I caught him, and he said: Let me go, and I will teach you something, that when you recite it, nothing will come near you; it is Ayat al-Kursi. Then you went to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him of this, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: He has spoken the truth, although he is a liar.
