Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Ubaid bin Umair narrates that I offered the morning prayer behind Umar bin Khattab, and in the Qunoot of Fajr he recited this supplication: O Allah! We seek help from You and ask forgiveness from You. And we praise You in the best manner. And we do not show ingratitude to You. And we separate ourselves from and abandon the one who disobeys You. O Allah! We worship You alone. And for You alone we pray and prostrate. And to You alone we hasten and present ourselves in service. And we hope for Your mercy. And we fear Your punishment. Surely, Your punishment is to be meted out to the disbelievers.

Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Abzi narrates that he offered the Fajr prayer behind Hazrat Umar bin Khattab, and he performed the same action as before.

Hazrat Hisham narrates that Hazrat Husain said: One day I led the morning prayer, and Uthman bin Ziyad prayed behind me. He says, I recited Qunoot Nazilah in the morning prayer. He says that when my prayer was completed, Uthman bin Ziyad asked me: Which supplication did you recite in the Qunoot? So I said: I mentioned these words: O Allah! We seek help from You and we ask forgiveness from You. And we praise You excellently and we do not show ingratitude to You. And we separate from and abandon the one who disobeys You. O Allah! We worship You alone. And for You alone we pray and prostrate. And to You alone we run and present ourselves. And we hope for Your mercy and we fear Your severe punishment. Surely, Your punishment is to befall the disbelievers. Hazrat Husain says: Uthman bin Ziyad told me: Both Hazrat Umar bin Khattab and Hazrat Uthman bin Affan used to do the same.

Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Suwaid Al-Kahili narrates that Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) used to recite these two Surahs as Qunoot in Fajr. O Allah! We seek help from You and we ask forgiveness from You and we praise You excellently and we do not show ingratitude to You and we separate ourselves from and abandon the one who disobeys You. O Allah! We worship You alone and for You alone we pray and prostrate, and to You alone we run and in Your service alone we are present. We hope for Your mercy and we fear Your punishment. Surely, Your punishment is going to reach the disbelievers.

Hazrat Maymun bin Mihran narrates regarding the recitation of Hazrat Ubayy bin Ka'b as follows: O Allah! We seek help from You and we ask forgiveness from You, and we praise You in the best way, and we do not show ingratitude to You. And we separate ourselves from and abandon the one who disobeys You. O Allah! We worship only You, and for You alone we perform prayer and prostrate. And towards You alone we hasten and present ourselves for service. We hope for Your mercy and we fear Your punishment. Surely, Your punishment is to befall the disbelievers.

Hazrat Ubaid bin Umair narrates that I heard Hazrat Umar bin Khattab reciting Qunoot Nazilah in the Fajr prayer as follows: O Allah! We seek help from You, and we believe in You. And we put our trust in You alone. We praise You excellently and we do not show ingratitude to You. O Allah! We worship You alone. And for You alone we perform prayer and prostrate. And to You alone we hasten and present ourselves in service. We hope for Your mercy and we fear Your punishment. Surely, Your punishment is to befall the disbelievers. O Allah! Punish the disbelievers among the People of the Book, those who hinder from Your path.
