Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Mutalib bin Abdullah narrates that Hazrat Abu Bakr used to recite this supplication: O Allah! Make the last part of my life better. And make the end of my deeds better. And make the days when I meet You better than my previous days. Hazrat Mutalib bin Abdullah said: Hazrat Umar used to supplicate in this way: O Allah! Protect me through Your rope. And grant me sustenance from Your bounty. And make me such that I become one who safeguards Your command.

Hazrat Shaddad narrates that the very first supplication which Hazrat Umar made was indeed: O Allah! I am weak, so make me strong. And I am very harsh, so make me gentle. And indeed I am very miserly, so make me generous.

Hazrat Hassan bin Faid Al-Absi narrates about Hazrat Umar that he used to supplicate: O Allah! Fill my heart with contentment. And create in me longing for that which is with You. And bless the sustenance You have granted me. And make me independent of that which You have forbidden for me.

Hazrat Rabi’ narrates regarding Hazrat Umar that he used to supplicate as follows: O Allah! I seek forgiveness from You for my sins. And I seek guidance from You for my good deeds. And I repent to You. So please accept my repentance. Surely, You alone are my Lord. O Allah! Instill in me longing for You. And place contentment in my heart. And bless the sustenance You have granted me. And accept my supplication on my behalf. And surely, You alone are my Lord.

Ibrahim al-Taimi narrates that a man supplicated before Hazrat Umar in this way: O Allah! Make me among the few. The narrator says: Hazrat Umar asked, What kind of supplication is this that you have made? So the man replied: I have heard Allah, the Lord of Majesty, saying: "And very few of My servants are grateful." So I am praying to Allah to make me among those few servants. The narrator says: Then Hazrat Umar remarked: All people are more knowledgeable than Umar.

Hazrat Abu Alia narrates that I heard Hazrat Umar supplicating in this way: O Allah! Grant us well-being and forgive us.

An old man from Khurasan who was called Mika'il said: When Hazrat Umar would stand for prayer at night, he would make this supplication: "You know my standing and you also know my need. O Allah! Return me from Your presence in such a state that my need is fulfilled, successful, and accepted—accepted for me. Indeed, You have forgiven me and You have had mercy on me." Then, when he would complete his prayer, he would say: "O Allah! I have not seen anything in the world that is everlasting, nor have I seen any condition that always remains straight. O Allah! Make me such that I speak with knowledge and remain silent with wisdom. O Allah! Do not increase the world for me so much that I become rebellious, nor make it so little for me that I forget You, for that which is little and sufficient is better than that which is abundant and leads to heedlessness."

Hazrat Saleem bin Hanzalah narrates that Hazrat Umar used to supplicate as follows: O Allah! I seek refuge in You from being seized by You while I am unaware, or that You leave me in a state of heedlessness, or that You make me among the heedless.
