Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform ruqyah (spiritual healing) with these words: "Lord of the people, remove the suffering. Grant healing, for You are the Healer. There is no healing except Your healing, a healing that leaves behind no illness." Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says: When the illness of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) intensified—the illness in which he passed away—I would hold his hand, and I would pass his hand over his own body and recite this supplication. She says: Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) withdrew his hand from my hand and recited this supplication: "O Allah! Forgive me. Join me with the Highest Companion." Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says: This was the last thing I heard from the speech of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).

The previous narration of Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) is also reported with this chain of transmission, but in this chain, the word "Falamma thaqula" does not appear.

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that indeed the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to supplicate for the sick in this way: "O Lord of the people! Remove the suffering. Grant healing, for You are the Healer. There is no healing except Your healing. Grant such a healing that no illness remains." Hazrat Sufyan says that I mentioned this hadith before Hazrat Mansur, so he also narrated this hadith with the aforementioned chain of transmission.

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would visit a sick person, he would recite this supplication: "Lord of the people! Remove the suffering. Grant healing, for You are the Healer. There is no healer except You."

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would place his blessed saliva on his finger and pray for the sick in this way: In the name of Allah, with the soil of our land and with the saliva of some of us, may our patient be cured by the permission of our Lord.

Hazrat Abu Hurairah narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, entered upon me while I was suffering. Then he said: Shall I not blow upon you with a ruqyah with the blowing that Jibreel taught me? With the name of Allah, I blow upon you, and may Allah grant you shifa from every organ that afflicts you, and from the evil of the blowers on knots, and from the evil of the envier when he envies.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever visits a sick person whose death is not near and recites these words seven times: I ask Allah, the Great, Lord of the Great Throne, to cure you, then that patient will be cured.

Hazrat Ubadah bin Samit narrates from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Jibreel performed ruqyah (spiritual healing) on the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was suffering from a severe fever, and recited these words: In the name of Allah, I perform ruqyah for you, from every illness that harms you, from every envious person when he envies, and from every (evil) eye, and it is the name of Allah that will grant you healing.

Muhammad bin Hatib narrates that I grabbed a hot pot and my hand got burnt. Then my mother took me to a man who was sitting in a high place. My mother said to him: O Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)! He said: Be fortunate and blessed. Then my mother brought me close to him, so he would blow (over me) and utter words, but I could not comprehend what he was saying. Later, I asked my mother what he was reciting. My mother said: He was reciting these words: "O Lord of the people! Remove the distress. Grant healing, and You are the Healer. There is no healer except You."

Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) used to seek protection for Hasan and Husain with these words: "I seek refuge for both of you in the perfect words of Allah from every devil and poisonous creature, and from every evil eye." Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says that Ibrahim (peace be upon him) also used to seek protection for Ismail and Ishaq (peace be upon them) with these words.

Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform ruqyah for Hasan and Husayn for Hasan and Husayn. Then the narrator mentioned a content similar to the previous hadith, but did not mention the word 'sharr'

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I was suffering from an ailment, so the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me while I was supplicating in this manner: O Allah! If my death has arrived, then grant me relief through death. And if death is to be delayed, then grant me healing or bestow well-being upon me. If there is any calamity, then bless me with patience. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: What are you reciting? Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I recited those words before him, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) passed his blessed hand over me and then supplicated: O Allah! Grant him healing or grant him well-being. Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says: After that, I never suffered from that ailment again.

Hazrat Uthman bin Abi Al-Aas Al-Thaqafi narrates that I went to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and I was suffering from severe pain, to the extent that this pain was about to lead me to something wrong. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to me: Place your right hand on the place where you feel pain, then recite these words seven times: "In the name of Allah, I begin. I seek refuge in the might and power of Allah from the evil of what I find." Hazrat Uthman bin Abi Al-Aas Al-Thaqafi says: So I did as instructed, and Allah, the Exalted, granted me healing.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to teach us this supplication for all pains and fever: I begin with the name of Allah, Who is Most Great. I seek refuge in Allah, Who is Most Majestic, from the evil of every vein that causes disorder, and from the evil of the heat of fire.

Hazrat Fudail bin Amr narrates that a man came to Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and said that a certain person is very ill. Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Do you wish for him to recover from his illness? The man replied: Yes! Hazrat Ali said: Recite these words three times: O Forbearing One, O Most Generous One, grant him healing.

Hazrat Abu Saeed narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) fell ill, so Jibreel performed ruqyah on him. Then he recited these words: In the name of Allah, I perform ruqyah for you, from everything that harms you, from every envious person and evil eye, and Allah alone will grant you healing.

Hazrat Amrah bint Abdur Rahman narrates that Ummul Momineen Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) fell ill. And Hazrat Abu Bakr came to her while a Jewish woman was performing incantations (ruqyah) over her, so he said: "Perform ruqyah on her with the Book of Allah."

Hazrat Anas narrates that when the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, would visit a sick person, he would supplicate as follows: "O Lord of the people! Remove the suffering, and grant healing, for You are the Healer. There is no healer except You. Grant such a healing after which no illness remains."
