Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) Al-Azdi narrates: It has been conveyed to me that Dawood used to supplicate in this way: O Allah! I seek refuge with You from such wealth that makes one rebellious, and from such poverty that makes one forget You, and from such desire that destroys, and from such deeds that bring disgrace.

Hazrat Ka'b says: Dawood used to supplicate three times as follows: O Allah! Grant me deliverance from every calamity that descends from the sky to the earth at night. And he used to say: O Allah! Assign for me a share in every good that descends from the sky to the earth at night.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Marwan that when Hazrat Ka'b would break his fast, he would face the Qiblah and supplicate three times as follows: O Allah! Grant me deliverance from every calamity that will descend from the sky at night. And when the edges of the sun would rise, he would supplicate three times as follows: O Allah! Appoint for me a share in every goodness that descends from the sky to the earth at night. The narrator says: Then he was asked about this supplication, so he replied: It is the supplication of Dawud; therefore, soften your tongues with this supplication, and make it a sign in your hearts.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abbas Al-A'ma that he says: I have received the information that Dawood used to recite these words in his supplication: Glory be to You, O Allah! You are my Lord. You are higher than Your Throne, and You have cast Your fear upon those who are in the heavens and the earth. (So the person who is closest to You in rank is the one who fears You the most intensely.) Thus, in terms of rank, the person closest to You is the one who fears You the most, and what knowledge can that person have who does not fear You, and what wisdom can that person possess who does not obey Your command.

It is narrated from Hasan that Dawud supplicated as follows: O Allah! Do not give me such an illness that makes me weak and feeble, nor such health that I forget You, but keep me in between these two.

Hazrat Saeed bin Abi Saeed narrates that this is the supplication of Dawood: O Allah! Indeed, I seek Your protection from the neighborhood of an evil person.

It is narrated from Ibn Buraidah that Dawud used to supplicate as follows: O Allah! I seek refuge in You from such deeds that bring disgrace, from such desires that lead to destruction, and from such wealth that makes one rebellious.
