Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abu Huraira narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Do not speak ill of the wind, for it is Allah’s mercy, which brings both mercy and punishment. But seek refuge with Allah from its evil, and ask Allah for its goodness and blessings.

Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Abzi narrates that Hazrat Ubayy said: Do not speak ill of the wind. When you begin to dislike it, say: O Allah! We ask You for the goodness of this wind, and the goodness of what is in it, and the goodness of the purpose for which it has been sent. And we seek refuge in You from the evil of this wind, and the evil of what is in it, and the evil of the purpose for which it has been sent.

Hazrat Mansur narrates that Hazrat Mujahid said: Once a strong wind blew, and people spoke ill of it. Upon hearing this, Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) said: Do not speak ill of it. Surely, the wind sometimes brings mercy, and sometimes it brings punishment. Rather, say: O Allah! Make this wind a means of mercy, and do not make it a means of punishment.

Imam Muhammad al-Baqir states that when a stormy wind would blow and whirlwinds would form, Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to say: Proclaim the takbeer loudly and strongly, for indeed this takbeer will put an end to the wind.

Hazrat Abu Fazarah narrates: Whenever Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Malik saw a strong wind blowing, he would say: O Allah! We ask You for the goodness of this wind and the goodness of what You have sent with it, and we seek refuge in You from the evil of this wind and from the evil of what You have decreed in it.

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: Whenever the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a dense cloud in any part of the sky, he would leave whatever work he was engaged in, even if he was performing prayer, until he would face it and say: "O Allah! We seek refuge with You from the evil of this cloud which has been sent." If it started to rain, he would say: "O Allah! Make this rain beneficial." He would say this two or three times. If Allah removed the clouds and it did not rain, he would praise and glorify Allah for that.

Hazrat Qasim narrates that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw rain, he would supplicate: O Allah! Make this rain beneficial.
