Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Ja'far bin Burqan narrates that it has reached me that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would hear a severe thunderclap, he would supplicate: O Allah! Do not destroy us by means of Your punishment, and do not kill us due to Your anger, and grant us well-being before that.

Whenever Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) heard the sound of thunder, he would say: Allah is pure and all praise is due to Him, Allah is pure, the One who is full of majesty.

Hazrat Ibn Tawoos narrates that when his father heard the thunder, he used to say: "Glory be to the One whose purity You have declared."

Hazrat Ibn Abi Zakariya says: Whoever, upon hearing the sound of thunder, recites these words: "Allah is Pure and all praise is due to Him," then the lightning that falls from the sky will not harm him.

Hazrat Aamir bin Abdullah narrates that whenever Hazrat Abdullah bin Zubair heard the sound of thunder, he would stop talking and say: "Glory be to the One whose purity the angels have proclaimed with all praise, and the angels have also declared His purity out of fear of Him." Then he would say: "This thunder is a severe warning for the inhabitants of the earth."

Hazrat Ja'far bin Burqan narrates that it has reached me that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to supplicate: O Allah! Do not kill us with Your anger, and do not destroy us with Your punishment, and grant us well-being before that.

Hazrat Jami' bin Shaddad narrates that when Hazrat Aswad Nakha'i bin Yazid heard the sound of thunder, he would say: "Glory be to the One before whose fear thunder and all the angels declare His purity with all praise."

Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) heard the sound of thunder and lightning, he would say: O Allah! Do not kill us with Your anger, nor destroy us with Your punishment, and grant us safety before that.
