Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Among all people, the believers are the most excellent in carrying out killing.

Ibrahim narrates that Alqamah passed by Ali bin Mak'bar while Ziyad had cut off both his hands and feet. Upon this, he said: I heard Abdullah bin Mas'ud say that the believers are the most excellent in carrying out execution in cases of killing.

Hazrat Shaddad bin Aws narrates in a marfu’ form that surely Allah, the Lord of Honor, has made good conduct obligatory upon everything. So when you kill, then kill in the best manner.

Hazrat Safiyyah bint Mughira bin Shu’bah narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade mutilation.

Hazrat Abu Al-Ash'ath narrates that Hazrat Shaddad bin Aws reported in a marfu' manner that surely Allah, the Lord of Might, has made good conduct obligatory in everything. So when you kill, then kill in the best manner, and when you slaughter, then slaughter in the best manner.

Hazrat Alqamah narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood said: Among all people, the believers are the most excellent in carrying out killing.

Hazrat Ubaid bin Ta’li (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that we went to the land of Rome for jihad, and the companion of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), Hazrat Abu Ayyub Ansari, was also with us. During the time of Hazrat Muawiyah, Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Khalid bin Walid was the commander over the people. We were with him when a man came to him and said: Just now, four wild cows have been brought to the commander. So he ordered, and they were tied up without being fed. They were shot with arrows until they were killed. The narrator says that Hazrat Abu Ayyub Ansari became alarmed and got up until he came to Hazrat Abdur Rahman and said: Did you keep these animals tied up without feeding them? Indeed, I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say that he forbade keeping an animal hungry and thirsty in captivity. And I do not like that I should keep even a hen hungry and thirsty in captivity, even if I were to receive so much and so much wealth in exchange for it—so this is a very serious matter. Upon this, Hazrat Abdur Rahman called his four slaves and freed all four of them in compensation for his action.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Yazid narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade mutilation.

Hazrat Imran bin Husain and Hazrat Samurah bin Jundub state that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade mutilation.

Hazrat Ya'la (may Allah be pleased with him) bin Murrah narrates that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say that Allah, the Lord of Majesty, has said: Do not mutilate them.

Hazrat Mansur states that Hazrat Talq bin Habib explained the saying of Allah, the Lord of Majesty, { فَلاَ یُسْرِفْ فِی الْقَتْلِ } as follows: that you kill someone other than the murderer, or you mutilate your own murderer.

Hazrat Khaseef narrates that Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair explained the saying of Allah, the Lord of Majesty, { فَلاَ یُسْرِفْ فِی الْقَتْلِ } in this way: that two people should be killed in exchange for one.

Hazrat Buraidah narrates that whenever the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent an army, he would instruct: Do not ever mutilate (the bodies).

Hazrat Abu Saeed narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade mutilating animals.
