Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib narrates that a man was killed in the city of Sana'a, so Hazrat Umar had seven men killed in retaliation for him and said: If all the inhabitants of Sana'a had agreed upon his murder, I would have killed them all.

Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib narrates that Hazrat Umar said: If all the inhabitants of the city of Sana'a had participated in it, I would have killed them all.

Hazrat Nafi' narrates that Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) said that Hazrat Umar bin Khattab killed seven residents of the city of Sana'a in retribution for one man, and said: If all the inhabitants of Sana'a had participated in his murder, I would have killed them all.

Hazrat Abu Ishaq narrates that Hazrat Saeed bin Wahb said: A few men set out on a journey and a man joined them. When they returned, that man was not with them. The narrator says: The family of that man accused those travelers. Upon this, Hazrat Shurayh said: Bring witnesses to prove that they killed your companion, otherwise these people will swear by Allah that they did not kill him. So the people brought them to Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), and I was also present with him. He separated them, and then they confessed. The narrator says that I heard Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) saying: I am Abu al-Hasan, the experienced one. Then, by his order, they were executed.

Hazrat Ibn Jurayj states that I heard Hazrat Sulaiman bin Musa, regarding a people who were recommending someone, saying: "In exchange for him, kill all of them."

Hazrat Ibn Jurayj says that I asked Hazrat Ata about a man who has intentionally killed two free men. He replied: He will be killed in retribution for both of them.

Hazrat Sha'bi narrates that Hazrat Mughirah bin Shu'bah killed seven people in retribution for one man.
