Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Ibrahim reports that Abdullah bin Mas'ud said: In the case of injury to the tooth and head wound, the wounds of men and women are equal.

Hazrat Shurayh states that Hazrat Urwah al-Bariqi came to me from Hazrat Umar and said that Hazrat Umar has said: In the case of injuries to the teeth and head, the wounds of men and women are equal, but if the wound is greater than this, then the blood money (diyah) for a woman will be half of that for a man.

Hazrat Sha'bi narrates that Hisham bin Hubairah wrote a letter to Hazrat Shurayh and asked a question, so Hazrat Shurayh wrote a reply to him: The blood money (diyah) of a woman is half that of a man, except in the case of teeth and head wounds.

Hazrat Sha’bi narrates that Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say: In the case of unintentional killing, the blood money (diyah) for a woman is half of that for a man in those limbs which are completely broken and entirely lost. And Hazrat Ibn Mas’ud used to say: In the case of unintentional killing, the blood money for a woman will be half of that for a man, except in the case of teeth and deep wounds; for these two, the blood money will be equal. And Hazrat Zaid bin Thabit used to say: In the case of unintentional killing, the blood money for a woman will be like that for a man until it reaches one third of the diyah; then, for any wound greater than this, it will be half the diyah.

Hazrat Abu Qalabah narrates that Hasan Basri said: The compensation for wounds of men and women is equal up to half of the blood money, and when it exceeds half, then even in that case, half of the blood money will be given.

Hasan Basri said: The wounds of men and women are equal up to half of the blood money, and when they exceed half, then in that too, half of the blood money will apply.

Hazrat Yahya bin Saeed narrates that Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib said: A woman will pay blood money up to one-third like a man; a woman's finger will be like a man's finger, her tooth like a man's tooth, her deep wound like his deep wound, and her head wound like a man's head wound.

Hazrat Sha'bi narrates that Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The wounds of women and men are equal in every limb.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Zakwān Abu al-Zinād narrates that Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz said: In the case of a woman’s deep wound, a head wound from which bone fragments come out, and a tooth, it is the same as for a man in terms of blood money (diyah).

Hazrat Sufyan narrates from a man that Hazrat Urwah bin Zubair said: The wound on a woman's head, a deep wound, and the breaking of her tooth are equal to a man's in blood money.

Hazrat Rabi'ah bin Abu Abdur Rahman narrates that I asked Hazrat Sa'id bin al-Musayyib, "What is obligatory if a woman's little finger is broken?" He replied, "Ten camels." I asked, "And in both of them, that is, the little finger and the finger next to it?" He replied, "Twenty camels." I asked, "What is obligatory for three fingers?" He replied, "Thirty camels." I pointed towards all four fingers and asked, "What is obligatory for them?" He replied, "Twenty camels." The narrator says, "I asked, 'When her pain increased and the suffering became greater, why did the compensation decrease?'" He replied, "Are you from Iraq?" I said, "Is a learned scholar better or an ignorant student?" He replied, "O my nephew, this is the Sunnah."

Hazrat Hakam bin Utaybah narrates that Hazrat Shurayh wrote a letter to Hisham bin Hubayrah: The blood money (diyah) of a woman is half of that of a man, except in the case of teeth and head wounds.

Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib and Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz, both of these personalities stated: A man will pay the compensation of one-third of a woman's blood money.
