Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Mughira narrates that Ibrahim, in accordance with the saying of Allah, the Lord of Might: Translation: And those who, when they spend, are neither extravagant nor miserly, and their spending is moderate between the two. He said: They neither keep them hungry nor deprive them of clothing, nor do they spend in such a way that people say he has been wasteful in this matter.

Hazrat Minhal narrates that Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair, in accordance with the saying of Allah, the Lord of Majesty: "And whatever you spend of anything, He replaces it, and He is the best of providers," said: This applies in cases other than extravagance and miserliness.

Hazrat Yahya bin Jazaar narrates that Hazrat Abu Al-Abidain asked Hazrat Ibn Masood about extravagance: so he replied: Spending wealth in places other than its rightful due is extravagance.

Dawud narrates that I asked Hasan Basri: I bought perfume worth twenty dirhams for my wife in a year; is this extravagance? He replied: This is not extravagance.

Hazrat Tawus narrates that Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) said: Wear whatever you wish and eat whatever you wish. But avoid two habits: one is extravagance and the other is pride.

Hazrat Muhammad bin Suqa says that a man asked Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair about wasting wealth. He replied: Wasting wealth is when Allah, the Lord of Majesty, grants you sustenance and you spend it on those things which Allah has forbidden for you.

Hazrat Awam narrates that Hazrat Ka'b said: Spend, you will be given its replacement.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever adopts moderation will not become needy.

Yusuf narrates that Hazrat Abu Sariyah bin Hasan said: There is no extravagance in food.

Hasan Basri narrates that the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him: "What is the status of what we spend on our families?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "The wealth that you spend on your families without extravagance and without miserliness is counted as being in the way of Allah."
