Narrations Regarding Envy
Hadith 28293
٢٨٢٩٣ - حدثنا حفص عن الأعمش عن أبي إسحاق عن عمرو بن ميمون قال: لما رفع اللَّه موسى نجيًا رأى رجلًا متعلقًا بالعرش فقال: يا رب من هذا؟ قال: (عبد من عبادي صالح إن شئت أخبرتك بعمله)، قال: يا رب أخبرني، قال: (كان لا يحسد الناس ما، آتاهم (اللَّه) (١) من فضله).
Hazrat Abu Ishaq narrates that Hazrat Amr bin Maymoon said: When Allah, the Lord of Majesty, honored Hazrat Musa with a private conversation, he saw a man clinging to the Throne. He asked: O Lord! Who is this person? Allah, the Lord of Majesty, replied: He is a righteous servant among My servants. If you wish, I can tell you about his deeds. He submitted: O Lord! Please tell me. Allah, the Lord of Majesty, said: This person does not envy people for those things which Allah Almighty has granted them out of His bounty.
Hadith 28294
٢٨٢٩٤ - حدثنا أبو معاوية عن الأعمش عن يزيد الرقاشي عن أنس قال: قال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "إن الحسد ليأكل الحسنات كما تأكل النار الحطب" (١).
Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Surely, envy consumes good deeds just as fire consumes wood.
Hadith 28295
٢٨٢٩٥ - حدثنا أبو معاوية عن الأعمش عن يزيد الرقاشي عن (الحسن) (١) قال: قال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "كاد الحسد أن يغلب القدر، وكادت الفاقة أن تكون كفرًا" (٢).
Hasan Basri narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "It is near that envy will overpower destiny, and it is near that poverty and destitution will become a cause of disbelief."
Hadith 28296
٢٨٢٩٦ - حدثنا غندر عن شعبة عن أبي رجاء عن الحسن: ﴿وَلَا يَجِدُونَ فِي صُدُورِهِمْ حَاجَةً مِمَّا أُوتُوا﴾ [الحشر: ٩]، قال: الحسد.
Hazrat Abu Raja says that Hasan Basri, regarding this verse: Translation: "And they do not find in their hearts any need for that which is given to them." He said: Envy is meant.
