Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Rabi' bin Ziyad narrates that Hazrat Ka'b said: In this world, no one's praise becomes permanent until that praise is also established among the inhabitants of the heavens.

Hazrat Awam bin Hawshab says that I met Hazrat Iyas bin Muawiyah at the place of Zaat 'Irq, and we mentioned Ibrahim Taimi. Hazrat Iyas said: If I did not have respect for him in my heart, I would certainly praise him. I asked: Do you know him? He said: Yes! I asked: Then why do you consider it bad to praise him? He replied: Because it is said that praising someone is akin to giving a reward.

Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Muhajireen said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! The people to whom we have come, we have not seen anyone more generous in spending, nor anyone better in sharing whatever little they have, than them. They have borne our expenses and included us in their joys. We fear that they will take all the reward. Upon this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No! It is not so. In any case, do not praise them excessively, and pray to Allah for them.
