Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Rabee’ bin Sa’d narrates that I saw Hazrat Jabir writing on tablets in the presence of Hazrat Ibn Sabit.

Hazrat Yahya bin Saeed narrates that Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Harmalah said: I had a weak memory. So Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib permitted me to write.

Hazrat Abdul Malik bin Sufyan's uncle narrates that I heard Hazrat Umar bin Khattab saying: Preserve knowledge by writing it down.

Hazrat Yahya bin Abi Kathir says that Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) said: Preserve knowledge by writing it down.

Hazrat Yusuf bin Mahak narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I used to write down every hadith that I heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) so that I could remember it. The Quraysh stopped me from doing so and said, "Do you write down everything that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) says? Whereas the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sometimes speaks in a state of happiness and sometimes in a state of anger!" He says: I stopped writing and mentioned this to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). So he (peace and blessings be upon him) pointed to his tongue and said: Write! By the One in whose hand is my soul, nothing comes out from this tongue except the truth.

Hazrat Ma'n narrates that Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Abdullah took out a book in front of me, and swore an oath saying that this is written in my father's own handwriting.

Hazrat Mansur says that Ibrahim stated: There is no harm in writing on the margins.

Hazrat Abu Kubran narrates that I heard Hazrat Dhahhak saying: When you hear something, write it down, even if you have to write it on a wall.

Hazrat Husain bin Aqeel narrates that Hazrat Dhuhaak dictated to me the rites of Hajj.

Hazrat Basheer bin Nahik says that whatever hadith I heard from Hazrat Abu Hurairah, I used to write it down. When I intended to part from him, I brought my written copy and submitted, "These are the narrations that I have heard from you?" He replied, "Yes!"

Hazrat Yahya bin Atiq says that Hazrat Ibn Sirin said: I have written the borders for Ubaidah, you may ask him.

Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair says that I was with Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them). Whatever hadith I heard from him, I would write it on the front part of the saddle. When I dismounted, I would transfer it into my notebook.

Ayyub narrates that Hazrat Abu Qilabah said: Writing is more preferable to me than forgetting.

Ayyub narrates that Hazrat Abu al-Malih said: People find fault with our writing, whereas Allah, the Lord of Honor, has said: Translation: Its knowledge is with my Lord in a Book.

Imam Sha'bi says that whenever Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Abdullah heard any hadith, he would write it down.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Hanish says that I saw people writing on their hands with pens.
