Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Taking bad omens is shirk. Taking bad omens is shirk. And each one of us faces some incident. But Allah removes it because of reliance on Him.

Hazrat Urwah bin Aamir narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about bad omens. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The best of it is good omen, and it cannot remove anything from a Muslim. And when any of you sees something he dislikes, he should recite this supplication: Translation: O Allah! None can bring good except You, and none can remove evil except You. And the strength to abstain from sins and the power to do good deeds is only through Your help.

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There is no reality in contagion, no reality in bad omens, and no reality in the owl (as a bearer of ill omen). A Bedouin stood up and said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! If one camel gets mange, it infects all the camels with mange? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: This too is destiny; otherwise, who gave mange to the first one?

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There is no reality in contagion, no reality in bad omens, no reality in Haamah, and no reality in Safar.

Hazrat Muzarib bin Hazn narrates that I submitted to Hazrat Abu Hurairah: If you have heard any hadith from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), please relate it. He said: Yes. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There is no reality in contagion, no reality in bad omens, no reality in Haamah, and the best omen is a good one, and the evil eye is true.

Hazrat Abu Huraira narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) liked good omen and disliked bad omen.

Hazrat Qatadah narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: There is no reality in contagion, there is no reality in bad omen, and I like good omen.

Ibrahim narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Evil omens do not harm anyone except the person who seeks them.

Hazrat Ziyad bin Abi Maryam narrates that Hazrat Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas set out on a journey. Then a deer came towards him, and when it came near him, it turned back and went away. Upon this, someone said to him: O Amir, you should turn back. Hazrat Sa’d said to him: Tell me, from what did you take a bad omen? Was it from its coming when it came towards me, or from its turning back when it went away? Then at that time Hazrat Sa’d also said: Surely, taking bad omens is a branch of shirk (associating partners with Allah).

Hazrat Ikrimah narrates that Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) embraced a person afflicted with leprosy. I asked him: "You embraced a person afflicted with leprosy?" He replied: "Let it be, perhaps he is better than you and me."

Hazrat Umm Karz narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Let bad omens remain in their place. (They neither benefit nor harm)."

The mother of Hazrat Sulaiman bin Qasim narrates that I asked Hazrat Umm Saeed, who was the maidservant of Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), whether Hazrat Hasan and Hazrat Husayn used to take bad omens. She replied: Both of them would feel it, yet they would continue with their work.

Hazrat Qabeesah narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Taking omens from the voices of birds, pessimism, and throwing pebbles for predictions are the ways of Satan.

Hazrat Raja bin Haywah narrates that Hazrat Abu Darda said: Whoever possesses three traits will be a hypocrite: one who speaks like soothsayers, or seeks division by means of gambling arrows, or returns from a journey taking bad omens.

Hazrat Jabir narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: There is no reality in ghoul (jinn misleading by changing forms) and there is no reality in Safar.
