Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abu Huraira narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Faith has sixty or seventy or a few more branches. He mentioned one of these two numbers... The highest of them is bearing witness that there is no god but Allah, and the simplest is removing something harmful from the path, and modesty is also a part of faith.

Hazrat Abu Barzah narrates that I submitted, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Guide me to such a deed that will benefit me if I act upon it." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Remove harmful things from the path of the Muslims."

Hazrat Abu Ubaidah narrates that I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: Whoever visits a sick person, spends wealth on his family, or removes something harmful from the road, then the reward for one good deed will be equal to ten.

Hazrat Muhammad bin Yahya bin Haban narrates that a man set out with Hazrat Mu'adh. That person would remove any harmful thing he saw on the road. When Hazrat Mu'adh saw that this person would remove whatever harmful thing he saw from the path, he asked him, "What made you do this action?" He replied, "I saw you doing this." Hazrat Mu'adh responded, "Indeed, you have done right," or he said, "You have done a good deed. Because whoever removes a harmful thing from the path, a good deed is written for him, and whoever has a good deed written for him will enter Paradise."

Hazrat Qatadah narrates that Hazrat Anas said: There was a tree in the path of the people which was a cause of trouble for them, so a man removed it from the path. Then the Holy Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Indeed, I saw him in a dream that he was walking under the shade of that tree in Paradise.

Hazrat Abu Huraira narrates that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: There was a branch of a tree on a path which caused trouble to people, so a man removed it, and because of this he was admitted into Paradise.

Hazrat Abu Dharr narrates that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The good and bad deeds of my Ummah were presented before me. Among their good deeds, I saw that removing something harmful from the path was one of them. Among their bad deeds, I saw that spitting in the mosque and not covering it with earth was one of them.
