Prohibition of Cursing Certain Things
Hadith 27994
٢٧٩٩٤ - حدثنا علي بن هاشم عن ابن أبي (ليلى) (١) عن عيسى عن عبد الرحمن بن أبي (ليلى) (٢) قال: قال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "لا تسبوا الليل ولا النهار، ولا الشمس ولا القمر، ولا الريح، فإنها تبعث عذابًا على (قوم) (٣) ورحمة على آخرين" (٤).
Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Abi Laila narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Do not curse the night nor the day, nor the sun nor the moon, nor the wind. Because they were sent as a punishment upon one people and as a mercy upon another people.
Hadith 27995
٢٧٩٩٥ - حدثنا يحيى بن سعيد عن الأوزاعي عن الزهري قال: حدثنا ثابت الزرقي عن أبي هريرة قال: قال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "لا تسبوا الريح، فإنها من روح اللَّه، تأتي بالرحمة والعذاب، ولكن سلوا اللَّه من خيرها، وتعوذوا (باللَّه) (١) ⦗٤١٨⦘ من شرها" (٢).
Hazrat Abu Huraira narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Do not speak ill of the wind, for it is Allah’s mercy; it brings both mercy and punishment. Rather, ask Allah for its goodness and seek Allah’s protection from its harm.
Hadith 27996
٢٧٩٩٦ - حدثنا عبد الرحيم بن سليمان عن عاصم الأحول عن الحسن أن رسول اللَّه ﷺ كان في (سير) (١)، فهبت ريح، فكشفت عن رجل قطيفة كانت عليه، فلعنها، فقال له النبي ﷺ: " (ألعنتها؟) (٢) " قال: يا رسول اللَّه كشفت قطيفتي، فقال: "إذا رأيتها فسل اللَّه من خيرها، وتعوذ باللَّه من شرها، ولا تلعنها فإنها مأمورة" (٣).
Hasan Basri narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was on a journey when the wind began to blow and a man's sheet became uncovered because of it, so he cursed the wind. Upon this, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to him: "Did you curse the wind?" He replied: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! My sheet became uncovered!" The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "When you see the wind, ask Allah for its goodness and seek refuge with Allah from its evil, and do not curse it, for it is only carrying out the command of Allah."
