Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Amr bin Maymoon narrates that I used to visit Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) every Thursday. I never heard him say in any matter, "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:" Then one evening he said, "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has said." At this, his condition changed; I saw that he stood up with the buttons of his shirt open, and his eyes filled with tears, and his veins swelled. He said: "Either he said less than this, or more than this, or something close to this, or something like this."

Hazrat Ibn Sirin states that whenever Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) would finish narrating a hadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he would say, "Or as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said."

Hazrat Asim narrates that Imam Shabi related a hadith. He was asked whether he was narrating this hadith as marfu‘ (attributed to the Prophet). He replied: Narrating it with less attribution is more preferable to us, because if there is any mistake in it, or any addition or omission, then this is more preferable to us.

Hazrat Ibn Abu Layla narrates that we requested Hazrat Zaid bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) to narrate a hadith to us. He said: We have grown old and we have forgotten, and narrating the hadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) is indeed a very serious matter.

Hazrat Saib bin Yazid narrates that I set out from Madinah Munawwarah towards Makkah with Hazrat Sa’d bin Malik, and I did not hear him narrate any hadith until we returned.

Hazrat Tawbah Anbari narrates that Imam Shabi said to me, "What is your opinion about Hasan Basri when he says, 'The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said!' whereas I sit in the gathering of Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) and I have never heard him narrate any hadith from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), except for one hadith which he narrated: A monitor lizard was brought to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, 'Indeed, this is not my food; as for you, you may eat it.'"

Hazrat Abdullah bin Abu Al-Safar narrates that Imam Sha’bi said: I sat in the gathering of Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) for a year, and I did not hear him narrate any hadith of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

Ibrahim states that Hazrat Umar bin Khattab used to ask Hazrat Ibn Mas'ud, Hazrat Abu Darda, and Hazrat Abu Mas'ud Uqbah bin Amr about hadiths. He kept these individuals in Medina until his martyrdom.
