Hadith 27658
٢٧٦٥٨ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا وكيع عن شعبة عن النعمان (بن) (١) سالم عن (خالد عن) (٢) عبد اللَّه بن (عمرو) (٣) أن رجلًا عطس عنده فشمته، ثم عطس فشمته، ثم عاد في الثالثة فقال: إنك مضنوك (٤).
Hazrat Nu’man bin Salim narrates that a man sneezed in the presence of Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him), so he supplicated for him by saying “Yarhamukallah” (may Allah have mercy on you). Then the man sneezed again, and he again said “Yarhamukallah.” When the man sneezed a third time, he said: “Surely, you are suffering from a cold.”
Hadith 27659
٢٧٦٥٩ - حدثنا وكيع عن فطر عن أبي إسحاق عن الحارث عن علي قال: شمت العاطس (ما) (١) بينك (وبينه) (٢) ثلاثًا، فإن زاد فهو (ربح) (٣) (٤).
Hazrat Harith narrates that Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Say "Yarhamukallah" to the one who sneezes when he sneezes three times in front of you; if he sneezes more than that, then it is an illness.
Hadith 27660
٢٧٦٦٠ - حدثنا زيد بن الحباب عن عكرمة بن عمار قال: حدثني إياس بن سلمة بن الأكوع أن أباه (حدثه) (١) أن رجلًا عطس عند النبي ﷺ فقال: "رحمك اللَّه"، ثم عطس الثانية فقال: "هو مزكوم" (٢).
Hazrat Iyas bin Salamah narrates that his father, Hazrat Salamah bin Akwa’, said: A man sneezed in the presence of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “May Allah have mercy on you.” Then the man sneezed a second time, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “He is suffering from a cold.”
Hadith 27661
٢٧٦٦١ - حدثنا يزيد بن هارون عن محمد بن إسحاق عن مصعب بن ⦗٣١٧⦘ عبد الرحمن بن ذؤيب قال: عطس رجل عند (ابن) (١) الزبير فشمته، ثم عطس فشمته، ثم عطس (في) (٢) الثالثة فشمته، ثم عطس في الرابعة فقال له ابن الزبير: إنك مضنوك (فامتخط) (٣) (٤).
Hazrat Mus'ab bin Abdur Rahman bin Dhuyaib narrates that a man sneezed in the presence of Hazrat Ibn Zubair, so he prayed for him by saying "Yarhamukallah." When he sneezed again, he prayed for him again by saying "Yarhamukallah." When he sneezed a third time, he again prayed for him by saying "Yarhamukallah." Then, when he sneezed a fourth time, Hazrat Abdullah bin Zubair said to him: "Surely, you are suffering from a cold; you should clean your nose."
Hadith 27662
٢٧٦٦٢ - حدثنا جرير بن عبد الحميد عن مغيرة عن الشعبي قال: قال (عمرو) (١) ابن العاص: إذا عطس أحدكم ثلاث مرات فشمتوه، (وإن) (٢) زاد فلا (تشمتوه) (٣)، فإنما هو داء يخرج من رأسه (٤).
Imam Sha'bi narrates that Hazrat Amr bin Al-Aas said: When any one of you sneezes three times, then pray for him by saying "Yarhamuk Allah" (may Allah have mercy on you), and if he sneezes more than that, then do not say "Yarhamuk Allah" to him, because this is an illness that is coming out from his head.
Hadith 27663
٢٧٦٦٣ - حدثنا يزيد بن هارون قال: (حدثنا) (١) محمد بن إسحاق عن محمد بن جعفر بن الزبير أن رجلا عطس عند النبي ﷺ فشمته ثم عطس فشمته ثم عطس (فشمته ثم عطس) (٢) الرابعة فقال له النبي ﷺ: "إنك مضنوك (فامتخط) (٣) " (٤).
Hazrat Muhammad bin Ja'far bin Zubair narrates that a man sneezed in the presence of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed for him by saying "Yarhamuk Allah" (may Allah have mercy on you). Then he sneezed again, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed for him by saying "Yarhamuk Allah." He sneezed yet again, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed for him by saying "Yarhamuk Allah." Then, when he sneezed a fourth time, the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "You are suffering from a cold, go and clean your nose."
Hadith 27664
٢٧٦٦٤ - حدثنا إسحاق (١) الأزرق عن هشام عن الحسن في الرجل يعطس مرارًا، قال: شمته مرة واحدة.
Hazrat Hisham states that Hasan Basri, regarding the person who keeps sneezing repeatedly, said: You should say "Yarhamukallah" to him only once.
Hadith 27665
٢٧٦٦٥ - حدثنا جرير عن منصور عن مجاهد قال: يجزئه أن يشمته مرة واحدة (١).
Hazrat Mansoor says that Hazrat Mujahid stated: It is sufficient to say "Yarhamukallah" once to such a person.
