Combining the Prophet's kunya and name
Hadith 27600
٢٧٦٠٠ - حدثنا سفيان بن عيينة عن أيوب عن محمد قال: سمعت أبا هريرة ⦗٣٠٢⦘ يقول: قال أبو القاسم ﷺ (١): " (تسموا) (٢) باسمي ولا تكنوا بكنيتي" (٣).
Hazrat Abu Huraira narrates that Hazrat Abu al-Qasim (ﷺ) said: Name yourselves after me, but do not adopt my kunya.
Hadith 27601
٢٧٦٠١ - حدثنا أبو معاوية عن الأعمش عن أبي سفيان عن جابر قال: قال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "تسموا باسمي ولا تكنوا بكنيتي" (١).
Hazrat Jabir narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Name yourselves after me, but do not adopt my kunya."
Hadith 27602
٢٧٦٠٢ - حدثنا عبد الوهاب الثقفي عن حميد عن أنس قال: كان رسول اللَّه ﷺ بالبقيع، فنادى رجل آخر: يا أبا القاسم، فالتفت إليه رسول اللَّه ﷺ (فقال) (١): إني لم أعنك يا رسول اللَّه، فقال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "تسموا باسمي ولا تكنوا بكنيتي" (٢).
Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was in Jannat al-Baqi when a man called another man, "O Abu al-Qasim." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) turned towards him. He said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! I did not mean you." Upon this, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Give your children my name, but do not adopt my kunya."
Hadith 27603
٢٧٦٠٣ - حدثنا أبو معاوية عن الأعمش عن سالم عن جابر قال: قال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: " (تسموا) (١) باسمي ولا تكنوا بكنيتي، فإنما جعلت قاسمًا أقسم بينكم" (٢).
Hazrat Jabir narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Name yourselves after me, but do not take my kunya. For I have been made Qasim; I will distribute among you."
Hadith 27604
٢٧٦٠٤ - حدثنا وكيع عن سفيان عن عبد الكريم عن عبد الرحمن بن أبي عمرة عن (عمه) (١) قال: قال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "لا تجمعوا بين اسمي وكنيتي" (٢).
The uncle of Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Abi Amrah narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Do not combine my name and my kunyah.
Hadith 27605
٢٧٦٠٥ - حدثنا ابن عيينة عن محمد بن المنكدر (سمع) (١) جابرًا يقول ولد لرجل منا غلام قال: فسماه القاسم، قال: فقلنا: لا (نكنيه) (٢) أبا القاسم لا ننعمه عينًا، فأتى رسول اللَّه ﷺ فذكر له ذلك فقال: " (اسم) (٣) ابنك عبد الرحمن" (٤).
Hazrat Muhammad bin Munkadir narrates that Hazrat Jabir said: One of us had a son born to him, so he named him Qasim. Upon this, we said, "We will not call you by the kunya Abu al-Qasim, and through this we will not bring coolness to your eyes." So that person came to the service of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and mentioned this matter before him. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Name your son Abdur Rahman.
