Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Alqamah narrates that I was coming from the place of Sileheen with Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him), when some traders from the place of Heerah also joined him. When these people entered Kufa, they left that path and took another route. He turned towards them and saw that they had deviated from the path, so he greeted them with salam. I asked: Did you greet these disbelievers with salam? He replied: Indeed, these people chose to accompany me, and a companion also has some rights.

Ibrahim narrates that Alqama said that Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) did not say anything to him except by gesture.

Hazrat Shu'aib bin Habhab narrates that I was with Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) bin Abdullah al-Barqi when a Jew or a Christian passed by us who was carrying a load of food. Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) greeted him with Salam. Upon this, Hazrat Shu'aib says that I said: He is a Jew or a Christian! So Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) recited the last part of Surah Zukhruf. Translation: By the saying of the Messenger, "O Lord, these are a people who do not believe, so turn away from them and say, 'Peace.' Soon they will know."

Hazrat Muammar narrates that news reached me that Hazrat Abu Hurairah passed by a Jew and greeted him with Salam. He was informed: He is a Jew! He replied: O Jew, return my Salam to me and I will pray for you. The Jew said: Indeed, I have returned it. He then prayed: O Allah! Increase his wealth and offspring.
