Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abu Zubair says that I asked Hazrat Jabir about the person who seeks permission from me but does not greet (with Salam); should I grant him permission? He replied: I dislike granting him permission, although people do this.

Hazrat Ata narrates that Hazrat Abu Huraira said: Do not grant permission until permission is sought from you through Salam (greeting of peace).

Hazrat Abu Al-Ahwas narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When you are invited, that is your permission, so offer greetings (salaam) and then enter.

Hazrat Ibn Buraidah narrates that a man sought permission from one of the companions of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was standing at the door. That person said three times, "May I come in?" He was looking at him but did not grant him permission. Then he asked them like this: "Assalamu Alaikum, may I come in?" He said to him: "Come in." Then he said: "If you had kept standing the whole night saying, 'May I come in?' I would not have granted you permission until you began with Salam."

Hazrat Salih al-Qadadi narrates that my family sent me to Hazrat Sa'id bin Jubayr with a gift. I reached his door while he was performing ablution. I said: "May I come in?" He remained silent three times. He said: "Say: As-salamu 'alaykum." The narrator says, then I entered, and he said: "I did not see you following the way of the Sunnah, so I have taught you the Sunnah."

Hazrat Jabir narrates that I sought permission from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Who is this person? I said: It is I. Upon this, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I, I! What is 'I, I'?"
