Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Ghalib narrates that we were sitting at the door of Hasan Basri when a man came and said: My father narrated from my grandfather that he said: My father sent me to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and said: Go to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and convey my greetings to him. So I went to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and said: My father conveys his greetings to you. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Peace be upon you and your father.

Hazrat Muhammad bin Abu Mukhallad says that I said to Hazrat Ibn Abi Awfa: "Your nephews have conveyed their greetings to you, and then the people of the mosque as well." He replied, "And peace be upon you and upon them."

Hazrat Aswad narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) instructed me: When you meet Hazrat Umar, convey my greetings to him. The narrator says that when I met him, I conveyed the greetings to him. He replied in this manner: "Wa 'alayh" or he replied, "Wa 'alayh as-salam wa rahmatullah."

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: Indeed, Jibreel is conveying greetings of peace to you. She replied: And peace and mercy of Allah be upon him.

Hazrat Ibn Aun narrates that when someone would say to the Imam that a certain person has conveyed greetings of peace (salaam) to you, he would reply in this manner: "Wa alaika wa alaihis salaam."
