Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Ismail bin Abu Ismail Rashid says that I was lying on my back, then I raised my leg over my knee. Upon this, Hazrat Saeed threw a few small pebbles at me, then said: Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to forbid lying in this manner.

Hazrat Ibn Sirin states that Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) considered it disliked that a person should lie down and place one leg over the other.

Hazrat Wasel narrates that Hazrat Jarir sat down and then placed one of his legs over the other. Upon this, Hazrat Ka'b said to him: Put it down, indeed it is not appropriate for any person to sit in this manner.

Hazrat Amr bin Utbah bin Farqad narrates that Hazrat Ka'b instructed him: "Put it down, indeed it is not appropriate for any human being."

Hazrat Habib says that Muhammad saw me placing my leg in such a way that my right foot was on my left thigh. He said: Remove it. Indeed, all the companions agreed on its being disliked. The narrator says: I mentioned this to Hasan, and he said: The Jews considered it disliked, and the Muslims opposed them in this matter.

Hazrat Mughira narrates that Ibrahim considered it undesirable for a person to place his knee on his thigh, and said: This is like sitting on the buttocks.

Hazrat Laith says that Hazrat Mujahid used to prohibit sitting in this manner.

Hazrat Laith says that Hazrat Tawus disliked sitting with one’s legs crossed and said: This is a royal manner.
