Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Urwah narrates that Hazrat Zubair was very strict with women, and he would break the sticks used for drying their clothes.

Imam Zuhri says that Hazrat Umar used to beat women and servants.

Hazrat Ata narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Do not beat your servant; rather, beat your wife and children.

Hazrat Yahya bin Saeed narrates that Hazrat Qasim said: Indeed, men have been forbidden from beating women, and it has been said: Your best men never beat. Hazrat Qasim said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was the best among people, and he never used to beat.

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) never struck any servant nor any woman, and did not hit anyone with his own hand.

Hazrat Laqit bin Sabrah narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Never beat your wives like you beat your slave-girls.

Hazrat Maymun bin Abi Shabib narrates that Hazrat Ammar said: Whoever unjustly beats his slave will be made to wear shackles because of it.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Zam'ah narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) delivered a sermon, then mentioned women and gave advice and admonition regarding them, and said: It may be that one of you beats his wife like a slave-girl, and then perhaps has intercourse with her at the end of the day.
