Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Usama bin Sharik narrates that a man asked, "O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)! What is the best thing that has been given to a servant?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) replied: "Good character."

Hazrat Usama bin Sharik narrates that people asked: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! What is the best thing that has been granted to a Muslim? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: Good character.

Hazrat Jabir bin Samurah narrates that I was in a gathering in which the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was also present. And Hazrat Abu Samurah was sitting in front of me. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Surely, ill-temper and foul speech have no part in Islam, and the best among the people in Islam is the one who has the best character among them.

Hazrat Masruq narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was neither ill-tempered nor foul-mouthed. And he used to say: Indeed, the best among you are those who have the best character.

Hazrat Abu Huraira narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Among the people, those with the most perfect faith, and among the believers, those with the best faith are those who have the best character among them. And the best among you are those who are best to their wives.

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The believer with the most perfect faith is the one who has the best character among them and is the kindest to his family.

Hazrat Abu Tha’labah al-Khushani narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Indeed, on the Day of Resurrection, the person who will be closest to me and most beloved to me will be the one among you with the best character. And indeed, the one who will be farthest from me and most detested by me will be the one among you with bad character, who is talkative, foul-mouthed, and arrogant.

Hazrat Abu Huraira narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Among the believers, those who have the most perfect faith are those who have the best character among them.

Hazrat Haritha bin Wahb narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: A person with bad character and foul speech will not enter Paradise. By "Az" is meant someone with bad temperament and bad conduct.

Hazrat Abu Darda narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Nothing will be heavier in the scale than good character.

Hazrat Maymun bin Abi Shuaib narrates that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Mu'adh, and on another occasion, Hazrat Waki' narrated that he said: O Abu Dharr! After committing a bad deed, do a good deed. That good deed will erase the bad deed. And treat people with good manners.

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Indeed, the worst people on the Day of Resurrection will be those from whose obscene speech others avoid out of fear.

Hazrat Abu Al-Ahwas narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The vile character of a believer is obscene speech.

Hazrat Hakeem bin Jabir says that a man said to another man: Give me some advice. The person said: After doing something bad, do something good; this good deed will erase that bad deed. And treat people with good manners.

Hazrat Thabit bin Ubaid narrates that Hazrat Zaid bin Thabit was the most cheerful among people when he was in private with his family, and the most dignified and reserved when he sat with people.

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: O Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), do not become one who uses foul language.

Hazrat Abu Abdullah Jadali narrates that I asked Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her): What were the manners of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? She replied: He (peace and blessings be upon him) had the best manners among people. He was neither immoral nor foul-mouthed, nor did he make noise in the marketplace.

A man from the tribe of Juhainah narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The best thing that has been given to a believer is good character. And the worst thing that has been given to a person is a bad heart in a beautiful face.

Hazrat Hani bin Shurayh narrates that I submitted: O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)! Tell me something that will make Paradise obligatory for me. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: You must speak well and feed others.

Hazrat Abu Huraira narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Never compete with people through your wealth; rather, you should compete with them through a pleasant face and good character.

Imam Shabi narrates that Hazrat Umar said: A person's lineage is his religion. His honor is his character. And his origin is his intellect.

Hazrat Nawas bin Sam'an Ansari narrates that I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about virtue and sin. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Virtue is good character, and sin is that which troubles your heart and you dislike that people become aware of it.

Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had the best character among all people.

Hazrat Maymun bin Mehran narrates that I asked Hazrat Umm al-Darda: "Have you heard any hadith from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)?" She replied: "Yes! I came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was sitting, or she said that he (peace and blessings be upon him) was in the mosque, or she mentioned something else. Then I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: Good character will be placed first in the scale."

Hazrat Hisham bin Urwah narrates that his father, Hazrat Urwah, said: It is written in the Torah that a person should have a pleasant face and his speech should be pure. Then he will become the most beloved among people, whom they reward with favors.
