Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Amir Hijri that he says: I heard the companion of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), Hazrat Abu Raihana, saying that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to forbid riding on (the skins of) leopards.

It is narrated from Hazrat Muawiyah that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade riding on (saddles made of) leopard skins and khaz cloth. Hazrat Ibn Sirin says: Hazrat Muawiyah cannot be accused regarding the hadith of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.

It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir. He says that when the skins of leopards are tanned, then there is no harm.

It is narrated from Hazrat Hisham that his father used to place the skins of leopards or wild beasts on his saddles.

It is narrated from Ibn Aun. He says that the mention of leopard skins was made in the presence of Muhammad, so he said: It is only disliked to pray on them. And Muhammad did not see any harm in riding on them. And he used to say: To my knowledge, no one has abandoned it considering it a sin.

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from Hakam. He says that I asked Hakam about the skins of cheetahs. So he replied: The skins of predatory animals are disliked.

It is narrated from Hazrat Hakam that Hazrat Umar wrote a letter to the people of Syria and forbade them from riding on the skins of wild animals.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Sirin that Hazrat Ibn Mas'ud requested a borrowed mount. When it was brought to him, it had a leopard-patterned canopy on it. He removed it, and then mounted the animal.
