Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her). She says that the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me and I had hung a curtain with pictures on it. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) saw it, his blessed face changed color. He (peace and blessings be upon him) tore it with his hand and said: "On the Day of Resurrection, the people who will receive the severest punishment will be those who try to imitate the creation of Allah Almighty."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah. He says that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "On the Day of Resurrection, those who will receive the severest punishment will be the makers of images."

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both). He says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "On the Day of Resurrection, those who make pictures will be punished, and it will be said to them: Bring to life what you have created."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Zar’ah. He says: I went with Hazrat Abu Hurairah to Marwan’s house. When he saw pictures in the house, he said: I heard the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, say: “Allah Almighty says: Who can be more unjust than the one who tries to create like My creation? They should try to create a grain, or they should try to create a particle, or they should try to create a barley grain.” The narrator says: Then he asked for water for ablution and performed ablution.

It is narrated from Hazrat Usama. He says that I entered the House of Allah (Ka'bah) along with the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). When he (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a picture inside the House of Allah, he (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered me. So I brought a bucket of water to him (peace and blessings be upon him). And he (peace and blessings be upon him) began to throw this water on those pictures. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "May Allah destroy this people; they make pictures of things which they cannot give life to."

It is narrated from Hazrat Nazar bin Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him). He says that I was sitting with Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them), and he was giving fatwas. (In evidence) he would not say, "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said," until a man asked him: "I am a person who makes these pictures?" So Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them) said to him, "Come closer." So that person came closer. Then Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them) said: "I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'Whoever makes a picture in this world will be made responsible on the Day of Resurrection to put a soul into it, and he will not be able to put a soul into it.'"

It is narrated from Hazrat Ikrimah regarding the Divine command "Indeed, those who offend Allah and His Messenger" that he said: This refers to those who make images.
