Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Abi Laila. He says that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "When any of you puts on new clothes, he should say: All praise is for Allah who has clothed me with this (garment) by which I cover my private parts and by which I attain beauty among people."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah. He says that Hazrat Umar bin Khattab wore a new garment and said: All praise is due to Allah who has clothed me with this garment by which I cover my private parts and by which I attain beauty in my life. Then he said: I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever wears a new garment and says: 'All praise is due to Allah who has clothed me with that by which I cover my nakedness and by which I adorn myself in my life,' then takes his old, removed garment and gives it in charity, that person will remain in Allah's mercy, protection, and covering—both in life and after death." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said this three times.

A man from the tribe of Muzainah narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, saw a washed garment on Umar. So the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, asked, "Is this garment of yours new?" Umar replied, "O Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him! It is washed." The narrator says that upon this, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to Umar: "Wear new clothes, live a praiseworthy life, and die the death of a martyr. May Allah grant you the coolness of the eye in this world and the Hereafter."

It is narrated from Hazrat Salim bin Abi Al-Ja'd. He says that when a person wears new clothes and then says: O Allah! Make this garment blessed for me, may we thank You for Your blessing in it, worship You well in it, and obey You in it. Then this garment does not go below the neck until that person's forgiveness is granted.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Nadrah. He says that when the companions of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a new garment on any one of them, they would say: "Tubli, wa yukhlifu Allahu 'alayk." (May you wear it out, and may Allah grant you more after it.)

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Nazrah. He says, "We live our lives in old clothes."

Hazrat Awn bin Abdullah narrates: He says that a man wore new clothes and praised Allah Almighty, so he was admitted to Paradise… or he said… he was forgiven. The narrator says: Upon this, a man said, "I will not return to my family until I wear new clothes and praise Allah for them."
