Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Masood that the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade pulling up the trousers.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever drags his garment out of pride, Allah Almighty will not even look at him on the Day of Resurrection."

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates from the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) that he said: "Whoever drags his garment out of arrogance, Allah Almighty will not even look at him on the Day of Resurrection."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Sa'id that he says: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever drags his lower garment out of arrogance, Allah Almighty will not even look at such a person on the Day of Resurrection." The narrator says: Then I met Hazrat Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, at the place of Balat. He says: I mentioned before him the hadith narrated by Hazrat Abu Sa'id from you. The narrator says: Then he pointed towards his ears (and said): My ears have heard this hadith and my heart has preserved it.

Hazrat Abu Salamah narrates about Hazrat Abu Hurairah, saying that a young man from the Quraysh passed by Hazrat Abu Hurairah while he was dragging his hanging garment. Hazrat Abu Hurairah said: "O nephew! I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: 'Whoever drags his garment out of pride, Allah the Exalted will not even look at him on the Day of Resurrection.'"

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah Almighty will not look towards the one who lets his garment hang down."

It is narrated from Hazrat Muhammad bin Abdur Rahman that he heard Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) say that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever drags his lower garment out of pride, Allah the Exalted will not even look at him."

Hazrat Abu Dharr narrates from the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) that he (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: "There are three people with whom Allah, the Exalted, will not speak on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He look at them, nor will He purify them, and for them is a painful punishment: (first) the one who lets his garment hang below his ankles, (second) the one who reminds others of his favors, and (third) the one who sells his goods by swearing a false oath."

Hazrat Husain narrates about Hazrat Mujahid that he used to say: The prayer of a person whose lower garment touches his ankles is not accepted. He states that Hazrat Dharr says: The prayer of a person whose lower garment touches the ground is not accepted.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Masood that he says a young man came to Hazrat Umar. He began to praise Hazrat Umar. The narrator says that during this, Hazrat Umar saw him pulling his lower garment. The narrator says Hazrat Umar said to the young man, "O nephew! Raise your lower garment. For this is closer to piety in the sight of your Lord and cleaner for your clothes." The narrator says thus Hazrat Abdullah used to say, "Hazrat Umar was indeed remarkable. When he saw the right of Allah upon himself, the state in which the young man was did not prevent him from fulfilling that right." (That is, despite the praise, he spoke the word of truth.)

Hazrat Abu Wa'il narrates about Hazrat Ibn Mas'ud that his lower garment used to hang low. So, when it was said to him, he replied: I am a man with thin shins.
