Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: "Any hide that is tanned certainly becomes pure."

It is narrated from Hazrat Salman that he says: One of the Mothers of the Believers had a goat. It died, so the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, passed by her and said: "If the owner of this goat had benefited from its skin, it would not have harmed them."

It is narrated from Hazrat Maymunah that her freed slave woman had a dead goat—which had been given to her from charity—when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by her. He said: "Why did they not remove the skin of this goat, tan it, and then benefit from it?" The people said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! It is dead." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Its eating is forbidden only."

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Hazrat Saudah bint Zam’ah had a goat which died. She says that we tanned its skin and used to make nabidh in it until it became worn out.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ikrimah that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, passed by the (dead) goat of Hazrat Sawdah bint Zam’ah. He, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Why did these people not benefit from its skin? For tanning the skin is its purification.”

It is narrated from Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair that he said: Tanning of the hide is itself its purification.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded that benefit be derived from the skins of dead animals.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by the dead goat of the freed slave woman of Hazrat Maymunah and said: "Why did these people not benefit from the skin of this goat?"

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates from Hazrat Maymunah that one of the wives of the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) had a goat that died. The Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Why did you not benefit from its skin?"

It is narrated from Hazrat Qais bin Abi Hazim that he says: I was told this hadith that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, passed by a dead goat and he, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Its owners would have suffered no harm if they had benefited from its skin."

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Masood that he said: Tanning the hide is itself its purification.

It is narrated from Hazrat Salamah bin Muhabbaq that he says: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The purification of skins is to tan them."

Hazrat Salamah bin Muhabbaq narrates from the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) a narration similar to the (above-mentioned) hadith.

Hazrat Qatadah narrates from the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) a hadith similar to that of Salamah, but the narrator Mansur does not mention Salamah bin Muhabbaq.

It is narrated from Ibrahim that he said: Tanning a dead animal (its skin) is its purification.
