Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw me wearing clothes dyed with mu'asfar (a yellowish-red color). So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take this off, for this is the clothing of the disbelievers."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Haneen that he says: I heard Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) say that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade me, but I do not forbid you, from wearing dyed (red/yellow) clothes.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates from the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) that he (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: "And do not wear clothing of a red color like that of a rose."

Hazrat Amr bin Shu'aib narrates from his father, from his grandfather, that he said: We were coming with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, from the valley of Idhkhir. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, looked towards me, and at that time I was wearing a cloak dyed with a sharp safflower color, resembling the color of a rose. Upon this, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "What is this?" From this, I recognized his dislike, so I went to my family. At that time, they were heating the oven. So I threw that cloak into the oven. Then the next day I presented myself before the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and he asked: "O Abdullah! What happened to the cloak?" I told the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, what had happened, so he said: "Why did you not make one of your family members wear it? For there is no harm in it for women."

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade Qassi garments (clothes made in the region of Egypt on which there are patterns of citron) and Mufaddam. The narrator Yazid says: I asked Hasan (the teacher), "What is Mufaddam?" He replied: Cloth dyed with a very bright safflower color.

It is narrated from Hazrat Tamim Khuza'i that he says: An old woman of ours told us this. She says: I used to see Hazrat Umar that whenever he saw a man wearing safflower-dyed clothes, he would beat him and say, "Leave these flashy things for women."

It is narrated from Hazrat Nafi' that Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) saw a piece of clothing dyed with safflower on one of his sons (on his body), so he forbade him from it.

It is narrated about Hazrat Laith, Hazrat Ata, Hazrat Tawus, and Hazrat Mujahid that they considered a color more intense than rose (dyed with safflower) to be disliked for men.

Hazrat Muammar narrates regarding Hazrat Zuhri that he disliked mu'asfar (dyed with safflower) for men.

Hazrat Abu Huraira narrates from Hazrat Usman that he says that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade (the use of) dyed clothes with safflower.
