Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Yazid bin Abi Ziyad that he said: The person who (himself) saw Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them) reclining on a cushion while eating, told me this.

It is narrated from Hazrat Mujahid that he says: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, only once ate food while reclining on a cushion and said: "O Allah! Surely I am Your servant and Your Messenger."

It is narrated from Hazrat Husain that he says: When Hazrat Khalid bin Walid came here, he passed by a post of the people of Persia where there was a man guarding them who was called "the man of a thousand men." The narrator says that people mentioned the size of his body and his bravery. The narrator says, Hazrat Khalid bin Walid killed him, then he called for breakfast and, resting his back on the corpse of that man, ate his breakfast.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ata that he said: We used to eat while reclining on cushions.

It is narrated from Ibrahim that he said: The earlier people disliked eating while reclining on a cushion out of fear that their bellies might become enlarged.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hilal that he said: I saw Hazrat Ibn Sirin eating while reclining on a cushion.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huzayfah, and he reports it as marfu‘, that in any case, I do not eat while reclining on a cushion.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Sirin that he says: I went to Hazrat Ubaidah and asked him about a person who eats while reclining on a cushion. So he showed me by eating while reclining on a cushion.
